SRS warning light 300tdi on. Is there a reset procedure?

The light was always off but then the disco went to  a  garage for repairs and since then the light has been on and the right hand S flashes very slightly.

The battery was disconected when in the garage. Do I have to reset something to turn the light off?

Had the steering wheel and airbag off mine a while a back.

If this has been done to your vehicle you have to leave the battery disconnected for some time . . . . say ½hr or so . . . . for the capacitors in the SRS circuit to fully discharge before you break the SRS wiring to remove the bag and streering wheel. If the caps are fully discharged all will be well when re-connected. If not, the circuit will think there is a fault and the warning light will not go out.

Take it back to whoever did the original repairs and complain about it.

so if I disconnect the battery for a few hours it may sort it out?

The job the guy did was replace the alternator pulley and rebuild the crank shaft a little bit as it had worn down when the puley became loose so the battery would have been disconectedfor a long time having that done.

I will try the disconect battery idea and see what happens.

Not sure about these but the "airbag" light is not just for airbags on most cars.  It doesnt sound likely to be connected to the alternator or crankshaft..

Very common on "normal" (aka boring) ;) cars for srs warning lights to be caused by iffy wiring to seatbelt pretentioners.  

Might be worth a look!

I know the air bags arent linked to the alternator pulley. What I was trying to say is that the battery got disconected when the mechanic was repairing the pulley.

Do 1994 discos have seat belt pre tensioners? I know modern day cars dobut is 1994 classed as modern day (boring as you say) cars?

lol I maybe didnt write that very clearly!  I didnt for one minute think you thought that the alternator pulley was the cause just meant that it sounded like a seperate thing to the work you had done. :D

Im not sure if they do have pretensioners, I dont have my disco (yet!).  Lots of other cars of a similar age do tho...

The 300-Series does not have seat belt pre-tensioners in the SRS system.

The system has sensors mounted at the front, just under the air cleaner and battery tray (small yellow boxes).  It is possible that these were disturbed, although they shouldn't have been.

Another possibility is that the garage disconnected the battery with the ignition still on, causing a 'Low Battery Voltage' fault to be logged ...

Either way, I'd take the thing back to the garage, complain, and have them cough up the cost of re-setting the SRS ECU, as this has to be done using either TestBook, Rovacom or similar. Disconnecting the battery doesn't work - I tried this on my P38 Rangie (very similar system), and even after 10 days, the fault was still there.

Saw a sign in a local LR dealership stating an administration charge of £50 for re-setting SRS systems a while back  :shock:
