servicing prices

my 300tdi is due a service and cambelt change and while i am more than capable of doing it i just dont have the time at the minute.
My question is what is a reasonable price to pay for getting the cambelt done and a 72000 mile service?

opinions sought please :D

I reckon that's both...  prices will likely vary depending on where in the country you are of course.

The independent up the road from me does a 12k service for £230.00 and it's about £100-140 extra for the timing belt going from memory... although it cost me a couple of fluorescent lights, wiring and a bit of my labour  :lol:

get a quote from Tony at Yellowcrown motors down Cowfold way, or Gumtree 4x4 have always been pretty reasonable down at Ditchling Common.  Avoid southern counties unless you are willing to part with limbs!

The going rate for a cam belt change at a garage is around 140/150, not sure about the service

I use garages for EVERYTHING, I know a little, but I always end up fixing/servicing with my chequebook!

Are there any Mud-Clubbers whose pockets could be lined for that sort of thing rather than us all using garages?

It seems such a shame for us to pay money sucking individuals for work that half of us could do anyay?

I just paid £148 to get the Timing belt done, including replacing the bottom pulley and the tensioner ...  That's including labour and parts, would have been £100 if it weren't for bramcote  ;)

Do your local lot fit diamond studded parts or something :?

True, but the "money sucking individuals" should carry liability insurance and should provide you with some legal recourse in the event of something going wrong.

I paid about £280 all in for my service with cam belt and tensioner fitted, inc. VAT and labour etc.  Think that included some brake pads and bulbs from memory as well.

That was from MJA Land Rover in Bromsgrove (Worcestershire).

Seemed reasonable to me.  SWMBO was not impressed.  Another "bill".

well got some prices for;

changing cam belt

72,000 mile service

cam belt price from gumtree was £215 +vat which was actually the cheapest i could find at the minute, one of the local "landy specialists" to me wanted £320 for doing it

service from Gumtree is £345+vat but i can find that cheaper from a garage down the road but the other landy bloke wanted the thick end of £700 for it :shock:

Me thinks i live in expensive land :?  so will have to do it meself which is a pain
