I changed my brake pads on Saturday and when i put my near side front wheel back on it felt like i had'nt done up the wheel nuts.
The wheel had a bit of movement on it when the wheel nuts were tight.
Could it be a wheel bearing?
or something else?
Does anyone know the exact part description of the part(s) i require?
Paddocks show loads of bearing parts in the axle section.
Help!!

Pull on the top  of the tyre while on the floor and see if it moves in and out on the hub, might need an adjustment on the wheel bearing

After that, Jack the wheel up, and have a pull on the wheel, hands either side and see how much free play on it, might need someone to look wound the steering joints (track rods), then with the wheel still off the deck, place a bar under the wheel and check for upward movement

Repeat on other side if necessary, or in my case peace of mind.

If it's wheel bearings then you should feel movement with the wheel off the ground and holding the tyre at the 3 & 9 o'clock positions.

If you then grab the tyre at the 12 & 6 o'clock and still feel movement then get someone to look at the seal on your chrome swivle housing and see if they can see movement there. If they can then it's you swivle pin preload that need altering with the removal of a few shims from under the top pin.
You need to get the right tension on the pins for the steering to tighten up again so have a look at you Workshop/Haynes manual for how to do this and the settings.  :wink:

If it's the wheel bearings then you may be able to tighten them up, in which case you may need nothing, or maybe a flange gasket and D-Locking washer just in case.

Jack & secure vehicle, remove wheel, remove rubber cap from the centre of the drive flange.
Remove cir-clip and spacer on stub axle.
Undo the drive flange bolts and remove drive flange.
Now you can see the locking washer and lock nut for the wheel bearings. push back the lock tabs on the washer and undo the lock nut (a box spanner for this is about £5-£8.) and remove nut & washer.
Hand tighten the inner wheelbearing nut and check for play in the hub, there should be a little but not much.
Then rebuild is the reverse of what you've just done.  :wink:

I may have missed something (doing it from memory while at work!!) so refer to the manual, I'm sure someone will point out any errors on my part.  :D

sounds spot on...wheel bearings do go especially with big tryes etc. New lock tab is advisable and they are very very cheap

It's like a 2 inch dia washer with "D" shaped hole in the middle that goes between the wheelbearing nut and outer locknut. Once tight, you fold down the edge of the washer to lock the nuts in place.  :wink:

It turns out it was the bearing.
The outer one was completly gone!(see below picture)
I changed the 2 nearside ones today and now all is fine and dandy.
Shame she had a flat battery where i have'nt driven it all week.
On the plus side, its so good to be back out of the series 3 i've been in all week.
Dam things given me back ache!

Funny story about how i got the parts Mike.
I phoned Land Rover in Coulsdon (South London) on the A23 and asked if they had the parts you listed.
They did but when i got there, there was no where to stop because of road works and the fact that i was in a articulated 40 footer.
So i phoned them to tell the parts desk that i could'nt get near and offered a solution.
The guy i was with drove the truck back from the drop we'd just done and the parts guy stood next to the side of the road.
As we passed by (very slowely) he pasted the parts up and i passed him the cash.
Now thats service above and beyond the normal call.
Adam in parts at Harwood Land Rover, Brighton Road, Coulsdon. You a gent!!
