New breakdown record ?
« on: January 11, 2006, 15:42:31 »
Hmmm, 45 mins and 7 'breakdowns' to cover just less than 1 mile - some sort of record maybe

'53 plate 110 Td5, 3/4 tank diesel. Everything seems to work fine, it goes ok (as much as they do !), but if you take ya boot off the gas - to slow for a roundabout or junction, it dies dead and refuses to re-start. It spins over ok, but doesn't fire. Leave it for 2 mins, curse and kick it - and away we go - all ok.............get another 100 yards or so, and slow for another junction, foot off the gas - and it drops dead   Also dies when you lift off when changing from 1st to 2nd.

Got home eventually - did the last 300 yds in 1st to avoid having to lift off the gas ! Checked the pot on the throttle pedal, no sign of water or damp, gave it a shot of WD just in case.......any other thoughts ???

Fuel pump seemed to be running - it's quite loud on the Td5, you can hear it whining away (a bit like SWMBO   )

Cut-off switch - you mean like the inertia switch thing that shuts off the ignition when you rear-end someone ?, have I got one of those ?

Well, if you sprayed WD40 into the throttle pot, i would say thats now shot.
If you open one up you will find a wafer thin strip of plastic, with 4 even thinner strips of copper layed on them, and four little pickup fingers, it looks like the sort of thing you would find in a £5 toy car,
not on a 20K of roader.
Thats why after only 12 months i will be selling my 130 CSW TD5, althrough only changed throttle pot, warped exhaust manifold, and head gasket.

Only sprayed WD into/onto the multi-plug - there was a little bit of damp in there...............and, when I got the beast, the throttle did jack-[PooPoo] - a clean cloth and a shot of WD got it working.
