Hi-Lift Jacks
« on: January 16, 2006, 10:38:23 »
I have plan and could do with some information.

Can I ask a favour and anybody with a Hi-Lift jack. Can you let me know what make you've got, then on the foot can you let me know the width of the foot. Also on the back of the foot there should be a single hole in the middle, can you possibly tell me how far the hole is from the back of the foot and from the main leg.

Thanks

Thanks for the one sensible answer James, any other makes of Farm Jack, I'd be interested in any differences. I've got Jackall and Hi-Lift now which are the main makes.

last time I looked into it the two I was sat looking at (a hi-lift and a farm jack ISTR) were manufactured in vastly different ways,  one was cast steel, the other rolled.  From what I know this makes a big difference when using the jack at the outer limits of what it's supposed to be used for.

Now, personally I don't really like hi-lift jacks (not the manufacturer the verticle ladder crawling things whihc are all commonly called hilifts) at the best of times, so I've always been tempted to hang the expense and spend the extra couple of quid and get the make which defines the name of the object...

Then again, I hate having to do the hoovering just as much and have an electrolux.  Go figure :?

come to think of it,  a proper hi-lift is like £38 ( http://www.devon4x4.com/shop.php?mode=productview&product=82 )

... why are we having this discussion :)

Oh,  btw..  No accesories (especially mounting brackets) aren't usually interchangable between makes :(

Plus VAT, plus delivery

Why is it that sites (and shops?) that generally sell to the public advertise ex. VAT prices

To fool us into thinking they are cheaper than they actually are. Actually that's a pretty reasonable price for a Hi Lift. So, what is the cunning plan then, Baldrick?

Have you noticed it's price + postage + VAT.
I'm sure it should be price + VAT + postage.

Depends on the courier I think...  if it was royal snail there should be an additional fee for "replacement item when they lose this one" :)

That depends if it is postage, or carriage. If it is a carrier or parcel company it will be + VAT, however if it is Royal Mail Stamps they are VAT exempt for now.

Thanks LandyLoon. It looks like a redesign is in order, most of the other bases I have seen have a hole at the back edge, which is roughly an inch in.

The more the better for me, Thanks.

At the bottom of the posting form, there is button for adding an attachment, if you press that it should give you some more bits to fill in that are relevant to posting picutres. If you've tried that and having trouble with it, the chances are the picutre is too large. There is a resizing tool on the site, but I can never remember where. Someone will be along shortly with a link I'm sure.

Resizing tool is in your profile pages.

So, it would be :  http://members.mud-club.com/profiles/Richie_EB4

Log in using the link at the top of that page and you should find the resizer in the menu

Drives me nuts. You can't avoid paying either so why hide it. I work in retail and the deception that goes on, well..... AHHHHHHHHHHHH   I could tell you some stories !!!

There is no reason in this world that any retailer cannot provide the "to your door" price like car manufacturers now have to do with "on the road" prices. All you on-line retailers out there buck your ideas up.

And Gords, retail shops are not allowed to do it !!

Runs off to bang his head against the wall

P.S.  According to the VAT man it's goods + carriage (postage) + VAT
