I know quite a few of you utilise the SouthDown fuel-tank guard/detachable towing pack.

Does anyone (I know 'Range Rover Blues' does, but forgot to measure on Friday :oops: ) use the optional recovery ring/whatever they actually call it

I've thought about it as one of my options with regard to this problem

So I'd like, please!
1. Photograph/ link to image (can't see one on the SouthDown site)
2. The distance between the outermost extremities of the 'ring' (I seem to recall it sits inside the tank lugs)
3. And importantly for a Yorkshireman, the price :lol:

Thanks Paul but as we can see from the picture that's another idea out of the window, as the recovery ring sits on both locating pins :evil:

If it had ben one it'd have been ideal (dependant on width)

BTM,  I'm unclear from your post what it is you're looking for, but ISTR that the Southdown rear tank guard (with recovery point) doesn't fit a TD5, due to the tanks proximity to the rear cross member.

It may be worth ringing up and asking to find out for sure.

I looked at the same system for a TD5 90, spoke to the nice people at Southdown 4x4. I was informed that they only produced these tank guards for pre TD5 models, as the cost of these for TD5 models would be considerably higher to meet all the new towing laws and regulations.

Basically, it's a continuation of this thread
I'm trying to source a suitable method of rear recovery that negates the need to carry the slider & hitch around.

A large shackle that fits snugly between the inner faces of the Dixon-Bate framework (on the securing pin) would be ideal.

The other idea (reason for this thread) was th SouthDown attachment for a shackle/rope, but as can be seem it locates upon both SouthDown pins & therefore needs to be at an angle - which seems unfeasible for my needs

This is roughly the set up that it looks like I'll have to use, simply on a larger scale (using the proper D-B pin as well :wink: )

I've got (as mentioned) a spare slider, I was trying to avoid having a large chunk of iron-mongery floating about inside.

I've got a Southdown + tow kit ... when not towing (i.e. most of the time :wink: ) I take the towing bracket off, but leave one of the mounting pins in! Ideal for recovery :)

I realise that that is another option as the D-B pins are of a similar diameter, but don't want the pin (possibly) bending in place. With a slider(or the SouthDown drop-plate) in place the load is adjacent to the mounting points/flanges.

Sory for being a bit 'fixated' about all this, but I like to get properly sorted

I went to a Chandlers in Castleford this morning, whilst they didn't have any big shackles in stock, they also have a riverside boat-yard, with lots of anchorage/restraint tackle laying about...............

Phoned the Chandlers, but they'd been too busy with deliveries to get down to the yard.
I said I'll ring back tomorrow.

Mindst you, there's also a branch of Hewden-Stewart not too far away. I know they're mainly crane/plant hire, but they might be able to help me out??
