Am I right in thinking that Disco 1 and 2 use the ZF 4 speed auto and early rangie classics use a 3 geared auto box ?
Or to put it another way a rangie 4 speed ZF would fit in a Disco 1 with no problems ?
Also, would a borg warner transfer box work better with an auto than the standard transfer box ?
I am converting my disco 1 shortly.

the borgwarner is a neat fit in a disco IE the floor is in the way,a 3 speed wont fit AFAIK & the bits to fit a 4 speed into a disco are fairly common as yours is a V8,if it was a TDi it would be a lot more complex
