can anyone help this Saturday?
« on: February 01, 2006, 14:00:51 »
My car was due to go into the garage tomorrow to have it's diff replaced (I have a replacement), but apparently one of their mechanics is off ill and they don't know when he'll be back. Therefore, they can't say when I'll be able to rebook :(

Another garage has said they can do it, but not until next Wednesday/Thursday and we are off to Derbyshire on Friday! So, I'm considering doing it myself.

So, is anyone available to lend a hand on Saturday morning (4th)? Or possibly Friday if that's easier.

Coffee/tea/lunch provided     It will be working outside though, as our garage is now an office

I'd offer to do it for you but I'm not local mate.

My advice, get it nice ond high on axle stands then beg borrow or steal a trolley jck with a big jack shoe that can contain the diff, let that do the work.

Trickiest bit was for some reason getting the old diff off the studs as it kept catching.  Take your time.  That said it's less than an hour if all goes well.

Gords,

Is this just a bolt up and fit the rest...*or* do you want the diff centre rebuilding into the diff itself?

It's a straight "replace the diff" job!

I've done it before    and have a trolley jack (although not with a large "shoe"). It's just that I don't have a lot of time (should actually be working :( ) and it would be nice to have someone help with getting the diff off/on, rather than risk dropping it on my head

Yes, I remember it being a pain in the **** getting it off the studs. You want to pull it butyou don't want it to wobble off the jack

RRB - if you fancy a drive, I could provide dinner too

It's a fairly easy job, but again, it'd cost me too much in fuel from Leeds I'm affraid. If it's driveable and you can get it too leeds, I'll help you no problem  :D
