People wanting to buy a Peugeot don't usually ask for a ZIP code....

They all sound dodgy to me, I hope you haven't replied to them.

We got loads of those when selling our Disco last year.

I sent them all a reply where I told them the lowest price I'd accept and that if paying by means other than cash that the money must be clear in my account for 30days before the car would be released.

Also I insisted that before we proceeded further I wanted a uk landline tel number, a non-web based email address for them and a verifyable postal address for them.

On one I even said that I had no problem with the deal as a friend worked for Scotland Yard in the fraud dept and he would be able to make sure the payment was ok etc  :D

Funnily enough not one ever replied back :D

Number 6 has the tail-tail signs of a scam, as do they all really.
But No.6 is a well known one: They issue a forged cheque to you and then, thinking the cheque has cleared in your account, you send the added shipping cost to the shipping agents and they run off with your money when their cheque bounces a week or so later!!

...so i had a look, found nowt, but didnt tell him that..

"dear sir, i notice your company "prestiege motors" number ##### is also a dealer for importing tropical frogs. i have a very keen interest in tropical frogs, in particular the south african tree frogs.... etc...

ended up offering him my truck and a tenner for 260 poison arrow tree frogs!    wish i`d kept a copy, i went round the net looking up info... so funny! didnt get a reply tho 8)

Anything on Western Union can be a bit dodgy, I'm surprised they let themselves get tangled up in these scams.

companies use "harvesters" to glean info such as contact details and costs etc so that they can cold-call you saying you should advertise with them..

ive had this and i work for one of the leaders on internet car-selling!

TBH though the easiest way is face-to-face, cold hard cash, cos then as long as its kosher u dont car what happens cos u have the money

when cheques come into play then you cannot release the car until the cheque has cleared cos 1) you wont have no loot and b) you wont have no ride

personally i part-ex'd even though i got a lower price it meant less hassle finding a buyer

dodgy, a cheque can be recalled a couple of MONTHS down the line! Never accept any cheque that isnt a bank of building society cheque...and then call the issuer to verify that it is correct. A customer i know lost a bike and had to take a loan to pay for their sudden overdraft- its just not funny!

we get the nigerian scams at work , even got one asking for a letter of reference saying they were going to visit us on business to buy goods when they came over, but what happens is they use it to get in the country and then disappear
