Upper link Ball Joint
« on: February 06, 2006, 20:25:49 »
Has any one ever changed the upper link Ball joint?

If so how difficult? any tips and how long should i allow.

Had a look underneath and looks quite easy but assume i need to lift the chassis.

Any help/advice appreciated

I take it you mean the a-frame ball joint. It's easy to remove the joint in it's casting from the vehicle but then you need to get the joint pressed out of the casting and the new joint pressed in. It takes a hell of a lot of pressure to do this 10 ton press at least sometimes more. Support the weight of the vehicle on the chassis before attempting to remove the joint.

the balljoint doesnt hold the vehicle up,it just stops the axle from twisting over,if you plan to do it yourself mind & cut the lugs off the old 1 as you will NEVER get it out if you dont,it doesnt even tell you that in the landrover workshop manual
