Upgrading headlights
« on: February 08, 2006, 06:08:49 »
Right, I am sure some of you read it, but after getting a set of Discovery 3 headlights to try and put on my Disco 1 I have decided it is a bit beyond me.

It can be done, The bumper needs lowering by 2 inches, the bonnet would need cutting straight accross the front, the headlamp mounting box needs removing, the main front panel requires moving back 2 inches along with the battery and part of the radiator.

They are absolutely huge !

Anyway, I have now decided on another idea but before I do, whats better out of the later disco 1 headlamps or the TD5 headlamps (not the upgrade TD5 headlamps as they are way too expensive at the minute)

In fact, looking at pictures of them both, is there any difference at all ?

Thanks

Its a straight swop
They are the same head light except for the black insert inside the glass
Easy as changing a light bulb.

so instead of changing my 200tdi lamps to the pre upgrade td5, I could make the same changes and use the post update lamps

I miss read what you wrote.
Swapping the lights from a 300 to early Td5's is a straight swop.
Fitting the later Td5 lights is quite a job.
You have to cut the wings as well as change the grill and a few other bits.
Contact fingers mclean
He's fitted those lights in his 300.
i'm sure he'd be glad to explain how much work it was/was'nt.
