can anyone tell me what the "copy" option in the sky planner does?
only appears on recorded programmes.

Its for choosing recorded programs to play one after the other for recording to VCR or DVD-R.

so if you have two episodes of something and set to copy
set to play it then switch on the recorder and it will play both?

I must admit I have only used this once, when I saved a mini-series for my parents to tape.
Work your way through the list of shows you have already recorded on Sky+ and press the "Copy" button for each show you want to copy to mark it for copying. When you're done, navigate to the first show you marked, and press "Select," after which you'll see a screen advising you to start recording on your VCR; just press select again, and each show will start playing in turn.
