Weekend dog walkers........

Why is it that when the weekend dog walkers are out ,they are scared whitless if they see another dog, down the woods this afternoon and two seperate groups  of people with one dog to share between them  insist on picking the poor thing up at the sight of another dog, they have nt got a clue what negative vibes they are sending out to their mut ,then they wonder why THEIR dog is unable to socialise..

Thats true jas278, the more a dog is around other dogs, the better behaved it is usually. Our dog is fine after a minute or so around a strange dog, Its the other dog owners he gets a little violent with.

Ours started training classes as soon as she had had her jabs and has been mixing with other dogs all her life.  She knows how to conduct herself and make friends, and if the other dog doesn't want to play, she moves away and does her own thing.  Even when another dog bit her, it didn't put her off being around dogs, she just knew to keep out of the way of that one.

I think it comes from her mixing with other dogs, but she has had remarkably few illnesses for a pedigree dog

i used to love weekend dog walkers when my old pooches where alive .  my lab used to love having mud baths then as he was so freindly used to go meet everybody he saw all these loverly clean dog walkers in white coats and high heels tip toeing through the fields going home nice brown streaks around  lol :D  :D

Things are not always what seem seem.
Our dog is a rescue dog and had quite an unhappy start in life. He is as good as gold now. If he is out with just myself he is fine and can meet other dogs and people no problem. Although he is rather indifferent towards other dogs. However when he's out with just Mrs C C it's a different story. Strangers and strange dogs are not tolerated to get too close to her. He becomes very aggressive and will position himself between her and the other person and let them know in no uncertain terms not to come any closer. Now this is not a bad thing because Mrs C C needs to exercise him while I'm at work (12hr shifts) So to save any unpleasantness whenever she see other folk in the distance she will put him back on a lead and because he is quite a big feller she also slips on a holti (sp) collar to keep him under control. An onlooker might conclude that she is over protective or that he is a dangerous dog but it's better safe than sorry.
Strange how relaxed he is with me though. I can stop and talk to total strangers and he is no bother at all. He will often offer them a chance to throw his beloved stick for him to chase.

Ours are a bit the same CC, bracken (our bitch) is Julies dog, dogs choice, not mine.  She's a rescue dog and used to be my Dad's shadow but it's taken a while for her to trust me completely.  Max (aka Beelzepup) came from a sanctuary but it hasn't affected him the same, he hates his own company, the more people around the better although I'm his all time favourite.  he sits on julie's knee and looks at me, if I so much as make eye contact he climbs down and sits next to my chair (bless him).

Anyway, when we are out I like to let them run, they chase each other for hours.  When they meet another dog or dogs they will play in a larger group, provided the other dogs are game.  Most people I meet in Clumber will happilly stand and chat for a while as this goes on, dogs will be dogs.

I avoid local footpaths and the towpath so perhaps I've been locky not to meet anything too 'precious' :roll:

P.S. I was chatting to a guy the other day, he said "I'll not let my Westy out just yet as he might kill one of your dogs, when they choke on it :lol: "

Agreed things , situations ,are not always the same, but I  bet youre  mrs speaks to fellow walkers , not look at them as if to say how dare youre dog sniff mine ..............Weve all met these people and they only come out at WEEKENDS.................My boyz are too choccy LABs ...and they are real dog people lovers ,they cant wait to meet and great people,and other K9s .........

mine (39 kilo german shepherd) just wants to say hello but it is funny when he runs towards people full pelt and you see their faces. :shock:   :lol:
he's a big soppy git, my other dog, a springer spaniel never leaves my side unless theres rabbits about, its great to see them running about in fields though
