Piv-Lock Wheel-Carrier
« on: February 18, 2006, 21:38:56 »
I called in at Simmonites  when I was 'Out & About' (on Thursday 16th) with a partial idea of having a look at one.

Does anyone have one?, & from which supplier?
I saw the price of the genuine LR item in the Rimmer Brothers 90/110 catalogue & thought... well I won't repeat it here!
I presume that it's the NAS/Special Vehicles item

Craddock advertise the Mantec which looks identical for (I think?) £199

I'll presume Paddocks sell one?

Photos & comments please, & ease of fitting, as I'm considering (possibly?) adding an extra pair of tail-lights inboard of the fog & reverse- will there be a positioning conflict?

While on the subject, cos I have a 35" Tyre on the rear door, I feel I really ought to do something with the weight etc. However as it stands the wheel, catches the brake light when the door is fully opened, do any of the carrier avoid this in any way??

BTM, I have a bearmach one like this:

Can't remember how much but i can find the receipt.  I found it really easy to fit, although I had to remove my rear/right light guard.

Drum I found this one kept my wheel further from the door, as before mine was fouling my read wiper, so it may bring it out enough to avoid the light, or may make it worse, can't figure out in my mind what the larger tyre size would do.

I reckon it could be because they're non-standard alloys on your truck,so the of-set is differant & allows it to sit closer to the wiper?

BTM.

If you are going for the Bearmach one, make sure you let the supplier know the age of the vehicle.  There are a couple of different models depending on the type of door you have on the back.

I have a copy of the Mantec version fitted to the back of my 90. Works ok, when you open the rear door, the way it is made allows the wheel to pivot on a slightly wider curve than the door. because of this my tyre no longer fouls on my light guard. The base is fixed to pre-made (Factory) holes in the rear cross member. The only others are just behind the middle hinge. Fitted in about an hour, in a car park at work. Will get you a picture when it stops snowing and is a bit lighter.
