Yesterday mud-club membership was close to 3500, now dropped to just over 2650. What's happened?    :?

Lee,

There is a renewal page somewhere on the site, I know I filled it in a few weeks ago, although membership is free it's there to weed out those who just join and don't return to the forum, everyone has to renew, so I would say the difference between the figures is the non-renewed members getting cleared out.

Thanks for that Frank, looks like I'll be sent one soon    I thought something had happened to the database and we'd lost some members after I'd told the man from the beeb that we had close to 3500 mud-peeps

Frank is correct, that was stage 1 of purging a few dead / dormant membership records.

The next stages will be happening soon,  so anyone who hasn't renewed their membership via their members page will get an email in the next week or so.

It's to get people onto an annual renewal, and rather than just setting everyone's renewal date to something arbitrary, I thought people would prefer to renew on the date they originally joined.  (If you see what I mean !)

Very good idea though, it is a bit disheartening to see the amount of people who have joined with zero posts against their name plus it gives a more accurate feel for the number of members

Sorry to ask a silly question but, how do you know people have zero posts unless you have access to admin/mod panels ?

I know how 'auto prune' works to clear out all the people that don't post, and certainly think it's a great idea (i auto pruned 400 members from part of my site only last week).

As another aside, how does one become a member of 'Mud Club' is it not as simple as signing up to the forum ?  Or do i need to do somin else like buy stickers and such ?

That all said i kinda like this place, beats the heck out of other places in most respects.

Oh and i need me some MC stickers for my motors to show my solidarity(strong word but you know what i mean), there is i assume a place/forum/number/address to order from.

Thanks all

Becoming a part of Mud-Club is as easy as signing up, and just to make this point totally clear,  posting to the forum *isn't* compulsary for membership.  We have several members with 0 post count, and they are as welcome as anyone else.

The "prune" system which has been introduced contacts those members who  have been around for longer than a year and asks them to renew their membership.   Renewal is as free as membership was, and you do not need to suddenly start posting in order to stay a member, "lurkers" are more than welcome.  As the saying goes "perhaps God gave the answers, to those with nothing to say"

The initial "prune" was simply for people that haven't so much as looked at the forum, or rest of the site in the last two years...

It may be daft, but it's how every other club does it.

There are various reasons and not all of them are focussed on upsetting folk, although I am under the impression that some people think the admins sit around trying to concoct new and more ingenious ways to upset people

The reason is simple, or at least the main reason is.  We intend on adding a lot of new features over the next year or so, and since decency suggests that they are "opt in", rather than advertise them in the "announcements" section, which blatently nobody reads, we thought we would ask people to renew their membership, so they could opt in for these servies, and start thinking of mud-club as a club, not just an online forum.

There are legal considerations too, but of course, the main reason is because we like seeing you suffer, apparently...

As has been said, most clubs ask you to re-subscribe each year, and unlike most of the others, Mud-Club doesn't ask you for any money at the time, it's not daft... it's brilliant!

I read the announcements, well I open the page start reading then my eyes glaze over....then I am ploughing tthrough a ford in my defender that I bought with my lottery winnings, but the bank on the far side is very steep. I mount the bank and my head is jolted....I wake up when my head hits the monitor. Now I have read the announcements onto the forum.
