I want to fit a number plate to the bonnet of my Disco (Adhesive Type)

Any body know the legal side to this etc?

It must be an approved number plate now, the sticky ones arent acceptable.

You will get a nice fine from the plod plus MOT failure.

DOH!  think mine would have looked cool with that on the Bonnet.

Was gonna put original back on for MOT but if there is a fine for looking good then forget it  8)

The law is such a spoil sport  :lol:

MOT Requirements

1. Check that there is a registration plate both at the front and the rear of the vehicle, and check each one for security and condition.

2. Refer to page 6 and check visually that the letters and figures are correctly formed, spaced, and are not obviously likely to be misread due to, for example, badly positioned or uncovered retaining bolts etc (see information column Style of letters/figures).

I guess it would fail due to the letters being unreadable/misread due to the altered perspective  :(

never had a problem with my disco, sportrack and far to many suzuki sj's at MOT time all with sticky number plates on the bonnet. As long as you can read it you'll be fine. Plod have never had a problem with it either, unlike the tyres stickin out from wheel arches etc etc etc

Had a sticky one on the front of my RRC and never had a problem with the boys in blue or the MOT.

My Zuki actually did fail it's MOT because of a stick-on number plate on the front of the bonnet.

Got a sticky one on my trailer seen lots of police but had no problem. Its big and clear so its how picky they want to be i suppose.

I suppose previously the MOT tester could let it go through, I know my Citroen CX has because of its Isle-of-Man formatted numberplate. The last test the guy said the format of the plate suited the vehicle so he passed it :)

I suspect now the computerisation of it wont allow that anymore.

Testers (or at least most of them) will have used a little common sense in the past i.e.

"can I read it from 10 paces" or similar.

MOT fails would have been for people taking the p*** such as using carefully placed screws to alter letters or using a font which makes it unreadable.

Will the computerisation change this though  :?

if you can read it from 20ft stood square to the front it should pass. 20ft been the eyesight requirement for driving test i believe?

if its actually on the flat of the bonnet looking skyward, then i recon someone will not be pleased!

easy way, ask a policeperson and an MOT tester  :wink:

mines on disco bonnet, never had a problem, traffic cop lives up road (friend) he never commented, mot man (friend) said its legal, supose mite not be on newer vehicle after thenumber plate laws changes

i dont think any one would have a problem if you fitted one of those, but i went to the local motor shop and they said they cant sell them any more because there not legal. you have to produce you V5 and photo ID to get a new plate now and plate has to have the name of the place you bought it from on the bottom.  :cry:
so i had to buy the plasic type, dont know where its going to go yet :?:

TUFFTEE went through M.O.T a couple of weeks ago with a couple of advises? but none for the front number plate which is swinging from the "A" Frame with 4 or 5 Cable ties? So that it swings up outta the way for Winch Operations! HeHeHe! :lol:
