Well it was just after 5 pm when I thought most people would either be still working or on their way home from work
Don't think it would have been a public holiday so how come so many peeps were off work ?

I think someone important said that the count is affected by search engines indexing the site, which gives a false impression...

I hope the 181 wasn't acheived by someone posting "lets all log on at the same time " - I was hoping for something a bit more exciting than that and would find it annoying (and ironic) if we have just started another one !

if loads of people are going log on and its not planned, then it will happen naturally ie if theres been a big event or whatever, but i think it would just be a bit of fun if we got the figuer up abit. no harm in it. :D

I've often wondered what happened on that day too. Until last week, a saab forum which i also frequent had its highest number of concurrent users on that day.

That "someone important" was me ;-)

There were a fair number of members online, but as Gords mentioned earlier... the search engines have little bits of softwre called 'spiders' which visit websites, recording content for their indexes.   These will show up in the users online (normally as guests)

In the situation where you get a few of the spiders indexing the site at once, you can get an artificially high number of visitors.

So, no.. there weren't 181 real people online I'm afraid
