loss of transmission ?
« on: March 11, 2006, 13:26:45 »
Cheesed off - going on a biking trip and the Series loses transmission- gear slection ok and put foot on the accelerator but no forward transmission. This happenned after about 45mins of travelling about 25miles so looks like when the engines got good and hot - works fine after it all cools down.
Any ideas as to cause - choke sticking, gearbox, clutch etc ??

Make sure the Hi  Lo range (Red) selector is right forwards, if no go, plunge yellow knob down and try again

Do you have FWH hubs fitted ?

Have you tried it in 4x4 ?

I suspect either as has already been said one of the levers is not fully engagaed or sadly you have busted a half shaft.

Its not somthing silly like your clutch fluid is boiling in the pipe because its touching the exhaust.... May be boiling and creating pressure and holding the clutch on....just an idea.

thanks for the tips - will post update once taken to trusty garage !?
It has got FWH hubs. It all works fine when cold - I wondered if it could be to do with the points /condensor getting hot  and not workign to create enough spark to get power through ?

You said it loses transmission so you think it may be the engine is losing power not your gearbox is losing drive. Fuel starvation also may be one of them things on ya list. New fuel filter.

If it's engine trouble best place to start is with the LT lead and then go from there.

I speak from experience when i say that the LT lead is a pain, where it goes into the dizzy there is a little rubber gromet and it has been known for the said gromet to be knackered and thus you loose the power because it disapates the power to earth through the casing.

Don't know if thats any help but still, hope you sort it either way.
