and just for the conspiracy theorists....
« on: March 12, 2006, 20:49:48 »
Just to pre-empt the inevitably whining and whinging and hurling of accusations... here is (most of) the text of the last thread that vanished...  I had to recover it direct from the database, which is why there is no formatting etc.

I only went to the effort of doing this because I wanted to reply....

What happened to the "renewal thread"!!

Why have it been censored ? What did I do wrong !? Just discussing the pros and cons with the admin team.

This post has disappeared and I've been given no explanation !! You cant bury your head in the sand.

If it is a technical problem when will the disappearing posts be sorted out ? Or are you going to blame it on the post fairies being back again.

it will be fixed as soon as we find what it is that's breaking it, or the EU institutes a 36 hour working day.

I am getting very tired of this, if you want all the admins to leave and turn off the forum (you've seen off one of them already) then carry on...

He is right. I am with you all the way and as for the people who are so cleaver to tell admin that they sould not post Emails to members because its bad pratice well if they was that good they would be able to check the code to see if it realy did come from Mud Club and not have to be smart with the admin. The club is Free and we like the club and want to keep it. We dont want to wind up the admin so they just give it up because of all the BEEP they take from people. RANT OVER.......

it's really appreciated, trolling, yes, that's a fun pass time..

Just how badly irritated do you want the admins to get ?

Datalas was on the verge of quitting a few days ago, and still hasn't made his mind up. Trolling isn't going to help matters.

dont leave mods. Your doing a fantastic job. I know how you feel as on my site we dont have access to the host pc for my forum and we cant up date the forum and it is now about 6 versions out of date and we keep getting spammed with stupid links from guests and cant even make it so only registered users can post. so I know how you feel.

Everyone else. Just bear with them. I am sure the mods are doing all they can to resolve the problem and we just need to be patient. After all they could start charging us and then they could get a company in to manage the forum. I am not too keen on that idea.

Keep the fantastic work up mods. Your doing a great job. Which ever mod it was who left come back and dont go Datalas. Please stay.

Hey drutt may be we should have a Childrens part to the site and lock out all the young boys who play silly imature games.

The problem is very annoying I appreciate and I praise the admin team for looking into the missing threads.

As a work around I've been backing mine up onto a word doc (copy and paste) to use again if needed.

Hope this helps

and my reply is this....

Despite what some people seem to think, we make decisions about the way the site is set up and run.. not on a whim, not with any hidden agendas, not with any dark purpose, and certainly not because we enjoy taking abuse from people.

We make decisions about the site based on a number of criteria, and most of the decisions we make actually generate work for us...  and we all have too much of that already.  We make decisions based on whether something will make the site more efficient, will make the club run more smoothly, or will provide our members with a better service.

What makes us very happy is when people contribute to the site and to the club... when they offer helpful advice, set up events, organise club evenings...   time and time again, it seems we have to remind people of this...    and that is a shame.

Comments and questions are welcomed and will be listened to.  They will be discussed and acted upon where approriate.  Other times they will not.   It's quite a simple arrangement really.

We (the site admins) are humans...  and as such, we get upset and we get happy...  that's what humans do.   We also tend to respond better to helpful, constructive comments from helpful, constructive people than we do when people just moan, or go out of their way to wind us up.

Now... there is a good chance that this thread will vanish again if lots of people respond.... and if that happens, well, I'm sorry.. but hard luck.
