What tyres?
« on: March 13, 2006, 20:48:57 »
I am going to have to buy some tyres.  Preferably with steel rims included I have about £250 - £300 (absolute max) to spend on 4.  Main use will be offroad but I will be driving home afterwards on them.  I will also be towing the caravan occasionaly (althought i suppose i could fit the alloys with road tyres everytime).  I have standard suspension and cant afford to change em yet. :(

Any suggestions people?  Does anyone tow a caravan with big MT remoulds?  Im not sure I like the idea.  Am I stuck with AT tyres?

Cheers,

Mike

Can ya not fit new m/t instead of remoulds, mine are quiet and stable and took very little balancing?  They were not cheap but worth it IMHO.

I run bridgestone m/t on the 90 which are a sensible-ish price, these are 12000 miles old and about a third worn which aint too bad, they are tough tyres, had abuse on rock and mud and owt else ya can name and although they have a few cuts and scuffs on the tread they are in better nick than they should be.  Not as good as BFG in proper mud though.  They run quietly and hold the road well but don't do brilliantly in standing water on tarmac.  A few folk rate the Hankook which is cheap but i have no experience of these except they seem good offroad.

Are these any good to you, will drop straight on a standard disco, just have to adjust your steering stops

Not every problem can be solved with duct tape, and it's exactly for those situations we have WD 40

I have some grizzley claws on mine for off road and just my bog standard road tyres for day to day stuff and towing the van. I am going to try the grizzleys out over bank easter weekend with the van as the site I am going to is mega boggy. This is how me and my dad were towed on last time! A landy didnt even tow us a millimeter!!!

See if that pic works. prob not:)

Any way. If I have any chance of getting on and off site and a possible bit of money or beer towing other people on and off then the grizzleys have to be on. Matt_h had the grizzleys before me and towed car trailers quiet happily on them
