Chicago

This May I'm going to Chicago for a week long training course.  I will have NO time during the week for sightseeing as the course is a boot camp style one running from 08:30 - 22:30 every day.

I've decided to stay the weekend either side of the course for tourist type stuff as I have no intention of spending a week in the USA and just seeing a hotel.

Now, the question is, do I stay in Chicago to see the sights?  From what I can learn, there's only Sears Tower and the Navy Pier and not a great deal else.  The other option, try and find an froadin' club that'll look after a Yorkshire Bloke and show him how it's done in the US of A.

What do you reckon?

maybe worth finding some USA forums and asking on there
then get them back to langdale and show them how to really drive with flair.

Try http://www.muddyoval.com

There are several guys on there that live out that way and would be happy to help out.  Most of us are just looking for an excuse to get out!  Tell 'em I sent you
My wife is from the Chicago area, also.  If you want to stick around there I'll ask what she thinks.
If you can make it as far as Auburn, Indiana there is a great museum - the Auburn, Cord Duesenberg museum. http://www.acdmuseum.org/

chicago is only a couple of hours drive from michigan and ohio
there is a huge jeep community with plenty of offroading. only problem is its totaly flat. my wife is a wolverene (from michigan) so we spend a lot of time over there, if it was me id jump in a car and drive to the far side of toledo and go to cedar point as they have some of the best rollercoasters in the world, or go into michigan and up the east coast up to the dunes at silver lake and hire a jeep and have some fun in the sand.
you cant just offroad in most states as its illegal unless you are a paid up ORV member and your vehicle has been inspected and ticketed.
illinois is a bit boreing so you may have to drive a bit
