Engine and Gearbox out in one or not. Re fit aswell
« on: March 15, 2006, 22:55:18 »
Anybody taken a engine out with gearbox attached. Will it come out after a quick strip or is it just as easy to take em out separate. What about the refit. I have Saturday and sunday to take out my old unit and box and then fit the new unit and box. This is all on my own. Anybody done it ? I have already got the other engine out of the 109 and I took the gearbox out with the engine hoist as the roof was already off.
Is the gearbox to heavy on the back of the engine to hand ball it in with the hoist. What ya think guys.

Agreed, even with a military chassis where you can drop the cross member its no easy feat, lot better in two units

for the sake of 10 (or so) bolts, its not worth the effort

you must already have the floor out to get at the gearbox mounts, you might as well take the box off

i took mine out once using a scaffold pole, with the middle bulkead as a pivot

Yeh but I got a hoist. Thats what I want to know. Is it possible. If I lift the engine at the back and get a nice balance.

They are supposed to come out together, BUT expect something to catch on the bulk head or rip some wiring out unexpectedly.

Right it will not come out in one piece easy. Had a go today and it was alot quicker to just unbolt it and then pull the engine....
