On the TDI engines the exhaust is on near (passenger) side of engine, on the VM the exhaust ports are on the off (driver) side. The VM down pipe is on the off side and then the exhaust crosses over to near side.

If you've already got a down pipe then an exhaust specialist can make you a new one using the existing one as a template.

When I had my Paj engined Vogue SE, it still had the petrol front box on it. I bought a VM downpipe and front silencer and managed to cut and shut it. Trouble was, all the vibration used to crack the downpipe just below the manifold so I ended up scavenging the local tyre & exhaust centre's skip for a suitable flexi-joint. The same exhaust has now been on it for 4 years with no probs.
Cheers
