I Did A Silly Thing Earlier.........
« on: March 19, 2006, 15:29:24 »
We'd (SWMBO, 'Small-Child' & myself) been to Border Books at Gildersome (jct 27, M62) in the 110.
Nice steady 55mph drive there & back, with me having resisted buying numerous titles in the Local History & Graphic Novel sections :(

Got home, parked up, watch SWMBO help 'Small-Child' out & locked the doors behind them.
Opened the offside rear door to get something out, reached round & pushed the button on drivers door.
Took phone from cradle
Retrieved said items from rear, pushed button down, shut door...........

Walks into house, takes coat off, takes phone from pocket & where's the keys?????

Goes back outside.
Keys swaying in ignition

No spare set, never got round to getting any cut

So, the ubiquitous wire-coat hanger was pressed into service trying to reach the (recessed) lock button
Numerous attempts fail

Consider trying to remove rear 'quarter-light' (rear panel).

So instead, we ended up pulling the beading out of the 'alpine-light' & removing the glass

Even with it removed, it was still a coat-hanger job to reach the button, as I don't have arms like Pratchetts Librarian

Thankfully, the glass went back in & seems to have sealed okay. 3 watering cans full haven't penetrated the interior................... yet.

So Come On!, Own Up!

Thats why I like my old hybrid, canvas top, but the biggest laugh, no locks

Actually could be worse a few years ago went out to open a car where the keys were locked in, the woman said I have my spare keys with me, I asked her why she didn't unlock the car

Pointing to the back seat, she said there in my handbag

I did something similar on a Citroen XM i used to own. However it had central locking and I cant remember how but the key got locked inside.

I took a torq's screwdriver to remove the front grill which lets you gain access to the bonnet release, opened the bonnet then undid the earth on the battery.  After numerous times of touching the earth clamp to the battery terminal and off again the system got so fed it, all the doors unlocked :)

Still I didnt learn and never did get a second key cut.

I did that with my phone in the Discovery about 3months ago.

I was convinced it'd slipped out of my pocket somewhere. It was a 5year old Nokia 3310, PAYG with only about £12.00 credit,so no great financial loss - just the usual nuisance of losing the numbers

After about a week of ringing it to see if I could hear it in the house, gardens, garage, workshop, at work, parents, etc.........
I went out to vacuum the Discovery out & found it stuck between the rear-offside passenger door & seat squab, as I never opened that door

T'Other Arf used to have an Astra a few years back. She was always locking herself out of that.  It got so bad, the security men at the gatehouse where I work, would phone the workshop and say, "Tell Norm she's done it again".      Once I got locked out of a Cortina at the local smithy, when my late alsation pressed the button down.
