The handbrake has started sticking on recently. Has normally released with a bang as I pull away. But yesterday it stuck on solid at a petrol station  :oops: Out with the standard LR issue hammer and all was well  :lol: But it is habbit to pull the handbrake on at traffic lights though..... more self consious hammering  :roll:

I adjusted it up a couple of weeks ago and I wonder if it is a bit over adjsuted and binding. The heat might be drying the grease out in the expander, maybe? I'll have a look tonight. I've had this before after wading, so it might be water got in there too and rusted it a bit.

The worst bit was that I had taken the cubby box out to get in from the top and promptly run over it  :x You know when it is just 'one of those days'!!!

Leave it dry, grease only attracts the muck and mud, clean off & spray with wd40/duck oil, and fit it that way not so much for it to clog up

i dont grease mine or oil it, just leave it dry, nuffing to trap the muck then, but im still sick of the hand break so getting a x-break..how good are they ?

well the x-brake is a big disc and a ruddy great big cable operated calliper.

I was tired of rebuilding my drum so did some enquiries and came across x-eng who make the x-brake.  At that time it was only available for standard 90s and 110s.  I helped to come up with the modifiications for the disco version and had I think the first one on a 3 door disco.. Since she died and went to heaven the x-brake moved to the 90.  

I can honestly say that, it "just works".  It works better than the drum, Iv'e had the car at over 45 degrees held only on the hand brake, the drum would never have managed that.. Even when I had the drum and engine in gear it woudl creep back an inch or so at a time as it over came compression!  X-brake, no problem.

Fit it and forget it :)  The guy who runs the company, doesn't make a great deal of money on these as the callipers are blooming expensive to buy, however you never know if you haggle!

Got it all stripped, cleaned and sorted last night. Just used a little 3in1 on it and works a treat ...... at least till the next mud hole!!

I've wondered about the X-Eng disc conversion, looks the business. Might consider it when funds permit. Got to sort the steering box and arm first..... oh, and then there's the bulkhead corners...... and the engine swap..... and........  :lol:
