« on: March 23, 2006, 16:49:16 »
hello,

ive got a V8 disco 1, and i was thinking about taking the backbox off the exhaust and having the exhaust coming out of the rear 1/4, i was wondering if anyone else has done this and if they had any pics or tips

Hello Nick i just cut off the back box as close as i could to the box and put a 90 degree bend and weld it on. Some pic here if it helps

Not much louder at all, does sound a bit when driving by houses or a wall as the sound comes from the side and bounces back to you. not like from the rear of the car as you leave the sound behind you.
Fine at the mot infact the man who does the mot has his the same or that might be why it passed
Ps i have a tdi not v8 the v8 might be a bit louder

V8 does sound cool with only 1 box, the back box doesn't make much difference but it makes some.  I've a sports system to fit soon and the back box is tiny on that, I'm thinking of having it replaced by a bigger one with a side exit.

exhaust was no trouble at all but it failed on other stuff such as body mount rotten  brake pipe rotten   steering crunchy and stiff which i still need to source a steering box for   but the exhaust was no trouble at all as it had no leaks and it didnt need a rear box to pass apparently

the AWDC have rules regarding exhaust exits and want them pointing back and down amongst other things

so if you are thinking of entering into an AWDC event (like the scorpion novice challenge) your exhaust could be breaking their rules if it exits straight out the side.  its spolit my plans!

David i wouldnt worry too much...i have seen several taking part in awdc stuff(inc scorpion extreme challenge) with side exiting . The scruitineering is far more concerned about safety than anything else.
