« on: March 30, 2006, 17:28:46 »
What transfer box would a 1992 V8 110 have?

Is it the LT230?? or are V8's different?

It would most likely be a LT230 variant, I think.

Well reasonably, but if you are enquiring about a particular vehicle or box it is really difficult to tell with Land Rovers, because so many have been modified and there are always anomalys.

Why do you ask...

in a 9s defender it should have the LT230 as standard cos it will be the LT85 santana split case gearbox (i think)
it may have been fitted with a borgwarner but i dout it

I read somethng the other day when trying to find out what my transfer box was. Look at the high low/lever if it just go forwards and backwards its a borg warner. If it goes left and right in the netrual position its not a borg warner and probably is a LT230 variant.

Best thing is to get underneath and dirty, from memory the model numbers are stamped on a plate on the RHS at the bottom of the casing underneath the centre seat (opposite side to the handbrake)

90 V8 that is costing me a fortune!!

I've never seen a defender with a BW box.

Is the main box 4 or 5 speed?

If 4 speed then it's the LT95 integral gearbox & Transfer box

If 5 speed then it the LT85 gearbox with a LT230T Transfer box (even if some people are too stupid to find the 5th gear   )

These are the only combinations listedin the Land Rover workshop manual.
