Well, my step father asked me if he could borrow the 110 to go to the tip today. So like the nice bloke i am, i said, ill give him a hand. Off we set to the tip, (about 10 mins away).

Anyway, done two loads, and on the way back, Screeching, Alternator light comes on, and smoke from under the bonnet.

@@@~~~$$%&"^£ Hell. Not now.  Bearing collapsed on the alternator. So i had to cut the belt off.

Drove about 500 yards and the temp is creeping up.
Stopped again, and fashioned a belt from large Cable ties i carry. Luckily they held up too.

Got home, took the alternator off (One plug, and three 8mm bolts) , and the drive end bearing has collapsed. Darn.

Anyway, into work tomorrow for a strip down, and hopefully we have the bearings too.

Glad i wasnt out greenlaning for the day.

Always at the worst of times!  I remember a few years ago we were making frantic calls from the middle of nowhere to get an alternator carried in for one of the truck in our group.  We must have been only a mile away from battery swapping to get it back to camp!
At least you'll have it sorted quickly!

I just hope we have the correct bearings. If not, maybe a good time to upgrate to a higher output one.

Well. Got it to work today, and stripped it down. The cage in the drive end bearing was missing, and the non drive end was soon to follow.

Luckily we keep the bearings on the shelf. Fitted new ones, and hey presto all done. Just got to get the belt now.
