« on: April 02, 2006, 19:44:10 »
Hi Guys,
I want to start a discussion on the modifying of our beloved motors...
We all spend hours doing what we can to make them ours put our stand on them and some of us make them unique 8)  8) Even giving up a spare hour to have a tinker under the bonnet or put a new product on to our trucks....So can you tell me why do people have to nick pick... moan...and rip apart other peoples work?????
I know some of us aren't engineers or qualified mechanics but why do people have to slag your motor off!!!!! if you don't like it Fair enough don't rip it apart!!!!!...Iam sorry but i had so may people looking over my Sherman yesterday It started to get to me a little...I don't mind talking to people about how i did this and how i have over come that ..BUT to listen to people rattling on about how they did the first lifted disco and how it was loads better than mine blaa blaa blaa And how the finish wasn't as good as his (mines a on going project)...And to listen to one bloke having a discussion with his mate saying how I was giving the wrong impression????????????? WHAT????????While his mate thought it looked the [bauble]..Iam sorry if i have gone on but it F#*kin P#ssed me right off..
I haven't built it for other people ...i have built it for ME so F#@k off...Sorry Muddy's but its my first experience of it and its not very nice and i ain't happy      But many thanks to the people that did like it..And there was quite a few and i do know we all have our own opinion but please before you make judgement on other peoples work think for a minute the owner may be a NUTTER!!!!!!!!!       Please share your thoughts and if you have had similar experiences??
cheers guys i think i need to go and lie down for a bit

'tis the problem when your car is on show.
I had the same thing with Big Blue at Brighton.
Some loved it, others slated my work.
Everyone is intitled to their opinion but sometimes you dont need to hear it.
Never mind Ali.
Maybe they where upset that yours was bigger than there's

maybe you should get a sticker made up saying the same
Mines bigger than yours!

Everyone's a critic...  I'm afraid there will always be people who take that attitude.    I've been building LRs for years and there is always someone ready to try and pull apart what you've spent months putting together.

Enjoy the praise and genuine interest from like-minded people, and try not to let the others bother you ;-)

It's almost always jealousy talking.  I agree it is really boring.  It's one of the reasons I like competition - I can let the results do the talking and if someone thinks they can do better - bring it on!!!

Sorry I missed you at Sodbury - was too busy looking down at the floor at the parts t see the cars or people.  Sorry to anyone we walked past on Saturday we were on a bit of a mission.  At least it was mission accomplished though!

One thing that is worth saying....   people all express themselves in different ways, but keep an ear open for helpful comments among the nonsense.  Sometimes people can come across as critical when actually trying to offer helpful tips

I saw your truck briefly and thought it looked fantastic mate.
Sodbury is full of pickeys and dreamers who just go to nick or pretend to know something.
I wished I had stopped to say hi and what a nice truck you have built.
Dont worry mate, There are more folks who think yours is nice.
I used to have a trooper with 8" body lift and 8" suspension lift and got fed up with "is it supposed to be a monster truck"
I am expecting similar comments on the rangie when its done.
With a vehicle like yours you are always gonna get comments, good or bad so I am afraid you will have to take the rough with the smooth.
If they are really rude just tell them where to go !
If they are genuinely interested they will be polite .
Probably more jelousy than anything else. :D

myself and a friend spent an absolute age building the first four door Beauford.  Thats a kit car built on a custom chassis using Cortina running gear and a mini bodyshell.  We had to extend the chassis by 12 inches and the mini body by 12 inches to allow the two extra doors to be fitted in the back.

We then converted a mini to a four door by extending that by 12 inches (still got one of them!).

We were asked to show these vehicles as at the time they were truely one offs.  There were a lot of admiring looks and comments, but likewise there were a few detractors.  Me being me, I started challenging the detractors by asking what they drove.  Not the one of them have ever weilded a spanner or welder in anger, they all drove bog standard vehicles with bolt on goodies (if they had got that far)

Don't listen to the detractors m8, you've done what you've done because you wanted to.  I haven't seen your motor and I cant see any great detail from your avatar.  Yopu have done it your way for you to enjoy.  Well played!

As for the detractors, you summed it up yourself.  F**k 'em.

firstly, I think your disco looks great.
Secondly, from reading other peoples posts i gather your vehicle was actually on display. If this is the case then you have invited people to comment be it good or bad. You will just have to develop selective hearing.

simon some times asks me if i like sports cars specially when they are driven past me, sorry to say they don't impress me but what does is when some one can and does what they want to a motor, not afriad to moan when it don't go to plan ect, but can give/ask  about constuctive ideas.  these people are men/women not some one who just says all negative things but has never tried to be different and stay like they rolled off factory asemmbly line (all the same) i'm noy mecanicly minded so i would probaly ask simon why youv'e done it but i wouldn't mean it natily just nosely!!!! although i don't know i still like to ask

Fingers, whats this about the owner possibly being a nutter...i thought you were! .
You have built it for you, sadly people are always critical its part of human nature. Where was it being displayed? Good for you for having the nuts to put it on show...none of muppets who were negative did.
I found myself doing a similar thing at billing....but kept the thoughts firmly in my head though. I also made mental notes of what i fancied doing and how i would do it differently(and which bits i'd nick!)
If you are going to billing and you arent on show just park up and walk away! more fun that listening to idiots! I will be there for the full weekend this year, cant wait!

nah

mine's better than yours...

just stokin the fire for a bit longer ;)

tbh stuff that was on my truck was never used as intended.. it was there cos it looked cool

nothing more

people have an opinion on that.. sorry mate i really couldnt give a rats... about what you think.

the only regret i have was that i didnt know anything about being a mechanic or diy so i relied upon others (disco inferno has a big hand in this) to help me out.  often i would buy things with the fitter either there or benig warned beforehand so they knew what they were going to be doing next.

now i drive a car from japan and it goes like stink and it has no mods other than k&n and i STILL get stick for it.. from the 20-something who drives an astra..

people in glass houses...
