Speed Cameras M42
« on: April 04, 2006, 01:30:13 »
I have been given some information:

As of the 1st April 2006 the new digital automated tracking system between junctions 3 & 7b on the M42 was scheduled to go live.

There are 276 Digital Cameras which have been set to allow only 2mph tolerance, you will not see any flash. The first you will know when you have been caught is the day the postman delivers the £60 fine.

Be careful, I won't be testing this to see if the information is correct.

The cameras are clearly visible at the side of the carriageway (look like street lights) and are very close together.
They have been installing them for about a year.

Also I am sure most of you are aware if not here goes: there are AVERAGE spped cameras on the M1 around Leicester (both south and north) they have been there for ages and the word AVERAGE is very relevant its 50 mph and its logged from entry to exit not just at the cameras (they are big ugly yellow things above the carriageways.Hope no ones got unstuck there!
Guyz into off roading sensibly and taking machinery and driving skills to the limit! but please dont scratch it!
>weve now got two v8s!

The cameras are traffic management cameras, for the new hard shoulder running system.
There are 8 enforcement cameras along the route not 276!

Very unlikely they would get you on that!

They have to allow 10% tolerance for inaccuracies on your Speedo. I know for a fact mine is out by at least that one way or another as I have clio wobbly speedo syndrome. I also know thw Audi reads a lil low (3MPH)

If anyone challanged a ticket for 72MPH it WILL get thrown out of court, they know this.

I suspectyou have duff information here as this would also have caused a big outcry which hasnt been seen.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Those arent cameras as such, the majority of those are heat sensing devices monitoring the traffic speed for the Trafficmaster network.

There is active traffic management on the M42 which is probably what you're thinking of, see here
 http://www.rospa.com/roadsafety/consultations/2004/active_traffic.pdf

As for the Blue boxes you see on over bridges, they are traffic master units, the green ones are Highways agency traffic flow monitors that provide live traffic information to this site here http://www.highways.gov.uk/trafficinfo/

These cameras have been removed along with the roadworks they were protecting. They were between J20 and J21.

the m42 cameras are set to acpo standards

when the speed limit changes they have I am told a 60 second delay where the camera is off. it then restarts at the new limit.
