Well, I dunno about the rest, but Kent is desperately hungry for drivers, so what on earth are you waiting for?????

Well done, Nellie, you will warn us when you get out with a rigid, won't you? :D

You are kidding arnt you,you might as well have stepped of the moon it seems.Than be a newly passed hgv driver! All im hearing is 2 yrs minimum exp recquired   And by what i been told by all the container drivers we get out of "kentish"ports (about 10-25 per day) is you have to "be happy" with five to six pounds an hour!So wheres this 80,000 shortage in HGV drivers    NONE of the agencys will even bother putting you on the books.Anything else is "euro" pay if you know what i mean.(I've even had "easterly european"drivers in a happy state at getting a flat £250.00 a week ) So how do you"get in" when you have a NEW liscense?

Maybe not what you want to hear, but the easy way could be to get a Wagon on Finance and get into Tippers, Bardon Quarries round me will take anyone who can provide a wagon that's under 7 years old, and it seems a similiar situation across the country for them at least.

get yourself a hi-ab licence and or demountable forklift licence. And you will find it a lot easyer to find a job. and try big firms they are more likly to take you on. And dont want to start a riot but around here tipper drivers dont have a good name as the work load they do means they break the law offten. And self employed is very scary when you have a £60,000 truck. You will also need you operators licence and pass a cpc test plus you need £18,000 in the bank to get you op licence plus have some were to park the truck up that no on objects to. its a lot of hassle. Much easyer to just work for someone and get a nice payslip at the end of the week  And there are a lot of jobs out there that pay good money but they are dead mans shoes to get in to.

Try them. Avoid trying to find a permanent contract until you have more experience. Get the experience with the agency, and when they send you to a job you like, and they offer you the right conditions, stay there.

Down in Kent, if you have a class II, you get £9/hr. With the HIAB ticket, £9.50.

I honestly think your up against when companies will proudly trumpet the fact that they've set on god knows how many Poles, who will gladly accept working for a pittance, good luck with the search though & well done.
