dying clutch
« on: April 04, 2006, 11:25:23 »
have been putting it off for ages, the clutch has been making a rattle type noise every now and then double clutch and it goes away. NOT ANY MORE...out playing at the weekend and its now doing it all the time, spoke to a mechanic and he says its the clutch!.So im going to be busy this weekend..
 some questions i have are:
1:   Anything else i should be changing apart from the clutch, clutch plate, release bearing, dont want to be stripping it back out in 6 mths time.

2:   Would i be better with an aftermarket clutch or get a landrover one!

3:  I use it for towing a caravan and light off roading would a heavy duty clutch be better!
the joys of owning a landrover :D  :D

i'd replace,

clutch cover, plate, release bearing, fork, fork pivot (the pin works loose in the casting).

also check the input shaft seal on the box and the crankshaft seal

get spare plstic retaining clips for the clutch push rod

I used a Heavy duty Valeo clutch in my disco, worked wonders and took a huge amount of stick,

the borg and beck ones seem to be ok though also
