Help please!!!
« on: April 09, 2006, 16:02:38 »
I need some help please!

I have a 2.5 petrol/lpg land rover 90 (1986).

I'm having a few problems with the ignition. I haven't got a manual and need to sort it by the morning.

If anyone can help I need the following.

Points gap. Timing/ignition advance. Fly wheel graduations (are they 1 mil, 1.2 mil, 2 mil etc?). Should I advance the timing slightly due to it running mainly on lpg.

Thank you.

If you advance the timing for LPG you could well kill the engine on petrol, plus it will be harder to start.  Ignition advance modules starts at around £65.

If you are having problems with ign it is unlikly going to be to do with timing it's very rare for it to go out of time, plus L.P.G runs fine on standard ign timing, it's more likly a coil, lead, or cap problem,
As a rough and i do mean rough guild i'd set points gap at about a 1 1/2MM - 2MM or tip of a small screwdriver,
If it's not running rough on petrol your gas system might of gone out of tune, and need the evaporator adjusting?
hope this helps
