is there a legal requirement on where the number plate goes
just put a tubular winch bumper on and thyere is no place for it :?
has any one got any ideas?

You can secure it anywhere providing it is easily legible when viewed from the front.
MOT wise it must be readable at around 20 mtrs.

got mine on the roof rack passed last year no problem :D its a correct size plate and forward faceing to legal

Just remembered these number plate mountings from
Devon 4x4
or you could just use a couple of 90 degree brackets mounted to the top of the roller fairlead to bolt the number plate too.
