Sounds like it could be a long night for you :(

Turn all your house lights off, have the phone close to hand and have a pen and paper ready for getting the reg number.

If they do return and get out of the car, a BIG flash light pointed at them will send them packing.

Hope nothing comes of it... but be on your guard.

cheers mate. got the first part of the reg now but as the misses says would they be stupid enough to use their own truck. every noise im up at the window now. all the lights are out and just the tv on now. oh and the metal pole is sat beside me. it just seems a bit strange to me.
viks asked me why they would want our old disco. i told here its worth quite abit stripped down to the right people oh and theres the little matter of the grands worth of bits bolted to her   ......just been out and put a big heavey duty chain around the seat adjuster and the steering wheel with an abloy padlock on it. that will make their night. by the time they have sorted that out they will have a lump on their heads   . when i get home from the meet im going to im gonna have to take a review of the security
cheers

A call to the police might be a good idea.. if you explain to them what you have said on here and you give them the part of the reg number that you have.... if it's a known number to them they might be very interested in parking up close by and keeping a look out for them.

If they have been checking it for bits they want.......they may come back in a few days or even next week
I'd be inclined to (if you aint got your own) have a chat with the neighbours to see if they'd be willing to rent you a garage cheap.

A few ideas for you mate (and anyone else)

Get a big yello DiskLock on the steering wheel, you only need the medium so hunt around for a good price, the large one is £100 in towsure :o  so expect around £80

Get a wheel clamp, a bloody great yellow one, that'll tell 'em you're onto them.

Buy a dummy CCTV camera and stick it in the upstairs bedroom window, if it's got a LED on the front you can bet they will see it.  I got a wireless CCTV a few months back and havn't had so much as a flat tyre since (kids) because everybody can see it when it's dark.

If you can't stretch to an alarm (£50 upwards in Maplin, DIY) then fit some hidden isolator switches to you ignition circuit, starter etc.  (had a mate a few years back, theives had defeated his alram, steering lock etc and pushed the car into the road, when they tried to hotwire it they couldn't, defeated by a £2.75 switch under the dash, otherwise it would have been gone).  Also thing about a battery isolator (small bypass fuse for your radio etc).

If the same happens and you are really bricking it then go out and let the tyres down, I'm not kidding they will b****er off for the night, too much hassle.

If it's petrol, remove the rotor arm.  Take the fuel pump fuse out of an EFi and replace it with a dud one.

Fit a small fuel tap in the fuel line, if it gets nicked you'll find it at the end of the road.

Here's a good one for an auto, wire up the inhibitor switch to a relay in the LT of the ignition, it will start but when they select R or D it will cut out, often they will abandon it there and then as people will be looking.

Crossbow

Big dog

Unfortunatley whilst we like to feel safe when at home theives take advantage of this and so you are more likely to loose your car whilst at home than at any other time.  I've spent a lot on security this year, not because the car is valuable but because I've put a lot of my own time into getting it sorted, so it's worth a lot to me.
Maybe I should move to Texas, you get paid for shooting burglars there :D

I had something the same last year so i installed my WOOF alarm, they are very cheap ie:- do it for biscuits and walks.Yes they did come back and i was watching and yes it was great fun!,infact i went outside after they had run off and praised the dogs to be greeted by a smelly, yellow wet patch where they were stood.

I bought a Disklock at a reduced price from our local Police Station last year.

Saw an advert in our local shopping centre from crime prevention team.

Think it cost around £60 for a large one, they also logged down the serial numbers as well.

I never leave my motors out for the thieves to pick off, but while away playing at weekends the motors are out at the mercy of the scum. We use 12 gauge shot gun blank tripwires on the perimeters of vehicles. This I can guarantee puts the wind up any potential thief, I also use them all around my property, not had a single trespasser for the last 4 years. One of the best deterrents  you will ever invest in

Unfortunately for someone who also used that method recently he ended up in court, as a kids picked one up & it went off in his hand.
He ran a skip hire company & had been plagued with theft & vandalism, so set a 'few surprises'.
Afterwards, the more logical of the locals told the press something along the lines of;
Serves the little b*gger right, if he hadn't trespassed, he'd still have all his fingers

The kids dad wasn't too pleased though, but presumably it never crossed his mind to ask what junior was doing on private property

ain't nothing you can do about it!if they want it they'l get it!if they don't nick it they'l still trash it trying to!best thing to do is get it alarmed and fit tracker!park it (if possible) as close to the house as poss, got to b&q and get a security light.they chime inside the house when the light comes on.

we have 2 of the above lights,3 cameras and a dog.you can disturb em before they do any major damage, but our house is like fort knox!so by the time the door's opened an the dog's scrambled the b******s have done one!i find a .22 handy to keep at the side of the window, stings like hell

Borders, weather or not you get a disc lock from your local nick will be down to the crime reduction officer for the area, the reason the 3 in Leeds sell them is down to 1 of the CRO's who has a special deal going with disclock, it's only one division of the police in leeds that sell them, not all west yorks,

i'll be driving upto Oban on the 28th of this month so could arrange to meet, drop one off depending where you are.

He also sells something called the Garage Guardian, a product designed to stop up and over doors being bent in half and forced open.

If people on here are interested in any other similar products that are available at reduced prices i'll post as and when they turn up, i currently work with the CRO as part of a burgulary reduction initative in Leeds so find out about bits and bobs like these that may help :D

4 of the biggest rawbolts you can find, into the deck, two big steel hoops and chain the thing down, front and rear.

Trouble is finding something a disco wouldnt just snap.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Any chance of picking me one up? (please, pretty please).

whilst I'm here, check this beast oout, top RH corner, the NEMISIS

http://www.towsure.com/default.asp?t=6307

Takes seconds to fit and is visible as hell.  They've copied the idea of the one's used by the DVLA for tax evaders, but this is simpler to fit and just as secure.  I have one of the DVLA type, thanks to Winchman, but I can't recall who makes it, it's £235 though
