I've only just found out about this in the new issue of 'Old Glory'.

I wonder if the Council will now pay for the planned statue of Fred?

The plaque’s inscription reads:
‘Home of the late Dr Fred Dibnah MBE steeplejack.
Honorary doctorate, Aberdeen and Birmingham Universities, artist, draughtsman, carpenter, stone mason, demolition expert, intuitive engineer, steam enthusiast, devotee of our industrial heritage, raconteur and television celebrity.
Revered son of Bolton 1938-2004.’
Richard A Thackeray

I'm so glad about that.  He really was a great man, I loved watching him on TV.

fred dibnah was one of those people who i thought would always be around, kinda like a jolly old grandad. used to watch it with the father every now n then, he had a steam engine in the back garden!

If you didn't know the man, at least by reputation, that struggles to do him justice.  I wonder if there will be a preservation order on his garden :wink:

Excelent.
Its great to see a real perosn get some recognition. Fred Dibnah was an amazing man and I think I speak for all when I say he is sadly missed

There was a plan (not too sure if it still exists?) to turn his garden into an Industrial Heritage site

Do we have any Bolton based 'Mudders' who can find out??
