Save a British Cafe

I'm all for the greasy spoon but H.P sauce are heading a campaign to save your local cafe buy asking you to buy a 'brown wristband',surely they could have come up with something more in keeping with the theme.

The biggest problem with Cafe's these days is the lack of parking.
Too many yellow lines or silly little bays.
How am i supposed to fit my arctic into them?
This is why the chuck wagons do so well.
Better parking & smaller overheads (thus lower prices)

ramon's in cathays in cardiff was soooper! but again its down to parking

there is a mobile one which stops just west of chorley hospital which does good barms but its catching them there thats the problem.

cafe's are losing out due to people like maccy's and bk i suppose.

btw Supersize Me on DVD this weekend in one of the papers incase you've never seen it on the box.

Well worth a watch, quite amazed myself.

amazed but not surprised, felt sorry for the guy

but i was referring to the general public who used to attend cafe's as a means of refreshment in towns and the like but with the convenience of aforementioned fast food places they are easier to get to and sometimes cheaper.

then again some of the cafe's ive seen near where i live dont really attract my custom, the food looks nuked or burnt and stinks of fags.

we have a proper cafe near our house at uni called "Mums Cafe" and they are godsends! its exactly what you need after a night on the town  :oops: every town should have one!

I love a good fry up.  But it's nicer and cheaper to cook my own at home.  But as has been pointed out already, the lack of parking at caff's makes it often hard to get near one.

youll be hard pressed to find a decent hash brown

for a good cafe with a very hearty breakfast

dont usually do truck stops as they seem to be a little pricey....mind you one of our lot had a drop on the isle of wight last week, went to a coffee machine on the ferry.. 90p for a coffee....bleeding rip off!!
that s why i have a kettle and coffe/tea/milk in my cab ;)

i agree that the greedy pig is great (or it was when it was on the Quadrangle) which is now the courtyard cafe which is good (only because i dont have to walk to far to get there) just round the corner from where i work at FIAT

I did my bit this morning...

Was wondering round Edinburgh trying to find where they had hidden my bank and cut down one of the many back lanes. I was greated by a wonderful smell of a full breakfast on the go, so knowing I was already well and truely late for work, decided to follow my nose.

Ah, I feel soooo gooooood now  :P  :P  :P

Wharfe View Cafe

Otley (5-6miles north of Leeds)
Situated on the banks of the River Wharfe, this is a simple 'back to basics' cafe.
Ample portions, good food & cheap.
Last time I was there (September) Steak Pie, Peas, Chips, pint of Tea, Treacle Sponge Pudding cost me £2.60

They bake on site, the Pies aren't the usual fare that comes in tin-foil, but baked in a 2foot square tin & cut out in big chunks.

On a wet mid-week day, you'll struggle to find a seat inside. On a sunny  weekend you'll be hard pressed to find a seat outside.

Closed for renovation/redecoration at the beginning of February, with a view to being open toward the end of the month.
I haven't had the opportunity to revisit since the re-opening.
As soon as possible, I will & comment on food/prices & decor

I made my way to Otley this morning with the specific cause of visiting this establishment.
Redecorated & new windows
Food still good value, hot & piles of it =D>
Meat & Potatoe pie, Chips, Peas & pint-mug of tea all for £2.70

Listened to one man saying he'd been going in there for over 30years, so it must be good to have stayed in business so long!
Even with differing owners through the years, it'd still need to provide good food to survive
