Sat Nav nicked !!!
« on: April 22, 2006, 00:45:47 »
A word of warning my car alarm went off at 10:45 this evening on going outside someone has smashed the drivers door window & swiped the Sat Nav   :x  I live on a quiet private estate where you don't expect things like this to happen - but I suppose everyone thinks that. I know it sounds obvious but if you have one take it in the house with you. The police say that even if it's not in view if they can see a sucker mark on windscreen they will break in & go through glove box

To add insult to injury I have rung my insurance approved windscreen companies & no-one can come out tonight. One can't get glass til Sunday & were going to perspex tomorrow but rang back to say they haven't got the perspex either. The other are ringing me in the morning to arrange when they can perspex as glass is out of stock

I just hope by the time someone comes I have a car left to repair - a Thatcham Cat 1 isn't much use with no window, and the insurance claims line is open 8 - 8 mon - fri 9 - 5 Sat, very helpful :!:

No offence but if i was looking to nick out of cars, i would pick a middle class cul de sac or similar as everyone thinks it is safe and everybody is also bent on minding there own business and will see nothing.  Sorry but it is true.  On a rough street 10 folk would see you doing it.  You are mad to leave anything valuable in your car.

Both police and satnav suppliers currently say you have a good chance of being done over even if you just leave the windscreen mount in the car.

The crooks know you will have probably chucked the tomtom under the seat(for max security) so they break in to check.

Remove all evidence, or get a big dog that lives in the car(not a pedigree tho, they'd nick the dog as well!! lol)
Go on....cut me in half........it says SUZUKI all the way thru the middle!!

I've said it before on this forum and others that a Sat Nav system is an invitation for a break-in these days. The local town rag had no less than three cases of cars being broken into for Sat Nav's this week (probably more unreported) and this is the supposedly the lowest crime county!

Unless you want your car trashed - I wouldn't bother fitting one. All it will do is push our insurance premiums up further.

I use one but it sits on a bean bag on the dash so when I take it indoors (which I always do) there are no tell tale sucker marks for little robbing toe-rags to spot!.  :P  :P  :P

We used a laptop & memory map for Wales so no problem for laning - just finding our way to places we've not been to easily - but I've bought a new one now & I've had to buy a handbag so I can keep it with me.

I like the bean bag idea - I might try that

Missroadrage, you only bought another GPS so you don't have to have Skutter and the laptop with you     How big's the handbag? If you're anything like Mrs J you won't have room for the GPS after a week  :P

The stupid facts are that if you did that you would find your self facing a possible charge of attempted murder.
If you catch them in the act and give them a good hiding you will be charged with GBH.
The scum know this and will tell you so just before you rearrange there face to make you think twice and being a law abiding citizen you will back off.
The loonies are in charge of the asylem.
Sooty gets down off his soap box.
I had my GPS stolen last year and it still makes me mad when I think about it.

Lost mine 2 years ago .... when they were not so popular. It seems every car has one now. I'm glad that at least two of my vehicles now have factory fitted systems ;-)
