Petrol locally @ 97.9p / litre and I don't care !!!
« on: April 23, 2006, 22:30:26 »
Filled the rangie up this morning to go on a run - £49.00 to neck it and off me and the boss went
Up Loch Eck side to the Rest and be Thankfull then over to Inverary, up Loch Awe and then lunch at Tyndrum - onwards to Ballachulish via the Connel Bridge then through Glencoe back to Inverary via Tyndrum and Dalmally
A lot of you (most, probably) won't know where I am wittering on about but my point is the sun was shining, the roads were quiet and the V8 was running like a dream
Dearer road tax ? - double it if you want
Dearer petrol ? - bring it on, I really don't care
There is no price I wouldn't pay to be in the motor I WANT TO DRIVE amongst the finest scenery anywhere in the world ( bit biased perhaps !)  on a nice sunny day
Fair cheered me and the missus up anyway !
199 mile round trip and best of all still got quarter of a tank to run about with - best £49 I've spent for a while
Here's a few photos taken on the way - maybe they will warm the cockles of someone elses heart too ! :D

You didn't do the round trip from Inverary down the side of Loch Fyne to Otterferry and across to Tighnabraich then?  That's a nice run on a day like today.  :D

I envy you your drive.  I have lived in Scotland on and off over the years and the scenery really does take some beating.

One of my favourites was down Glen Sheil, with the Five Sisters of Kintail on your right, Eileen Donan Castle at the bottom and a distant view of Skye.  I've done it on a cold, crisp morning with the snow down to sea level, perfect blue skies and hardly another car on the road.  Takes some beating.

I thought I had some photos, but can't find the ones I wanted, so an evening view from Loch Duich towards Skye might whet someones appetite :)

Cheers

Keith

Hi Budgie,

Where are you in the Outer Hebrides?  I spent 2 years on Benbecula in my RAF days and managed to tramp over just about every hill in North and South Uist.  Loved the place and the relaxed pace of life.

Cheers

Nice pic Keith
I used to do a fair bit of work in my forestry days along the edges of Loch Shiel - mainly around Scamodale  and Glen Hurich and some on the other side of the loch on the Moidart peninsula around Acharacle (try saying that with a drink in you !) :D

Just to tempt you south then Budgie.  Mind you you don't often get conditions like the second two piccies

Notice the obligatory collie.  We used to do about 12 miles, he used to do about 60, not counting the extra up and down involved.

Now those are great shots.  I love the clear blue water, the white sands, but the bloody cold water was a real turn off!!

Once spent two weeks camping on Harris, got the ferry from Loch Maddy to Tarbert.  Late May, long days, no midges and mountains that very few people bothered going up.  A real wilderness experience.

The Outer Hebrides are a real, still largely undiscovered gem and I hope they stay that way for a while.  Just think, if the weather was more reliable, you'd be up to you necks in tourists! :P

Cheers

200 miles on 3/4 of a tank, that's good going too, is it manual or auto?
