V8 Valley Gasket
« on: April 26, 2006, 19:54:12 »
I'm in the process of replacing the valley gasket on my 3.5 Efi due to an air leak on the back r/h two inlet tracts.

The one I have justr removed is a paice of thin metal but the one that has been supplied by LandRover is a composite item - The question is, does this matter?

I have also got new front and rear rubbers and clamping plates to replace the old ones as the parts chap told me that they would solve an oil leak that I don't have!

The newer composite gaskets should be better that the old tin ones so, no it doesn't matter.
You can get composite head gaskets as well but I understand that these are thicker than the standard tin ones and therefore you loose some compression if you fit these to a 3.5 or 3.9.

Infact I've got a composite valley gasket to fit to the Rangie's engine I'm rebuilding and I also went for the rubber rocker cover gaskets instead of the older cork ones.

me an andy fitted a composite v gasket to my disco when we did the gas conversion an it seems to be fine, We had a nightmare getting the inlet manifold off, Ive sinc been told they can be really tight under the rocker covers so its worth bearing in mind.
see you on monday at runhall, intrested in having a look at your 3" lift as that could be my next mod :)
discovery 3.9 v8, ES auto lpg converted 1" lift
