Happy ramblers - well I never!
« on: April 27, 2006, 14:26:08 »
As I have a day off today, thought I would go out and about.  :D

While on a green lane today I saw a group of ramblers who greeted me with a cheery smile and a Good Morning.  Then, a dog walker who called his dogs to the side to let me past and another Good Morning accompanied with a smile.    :D

Is it the sunshine putting people outside in a good mood, or could it be the fact I was on my mountain bike and not in my car?????? :?

i love seeing green laners when i'm out and about walking (which isn't as often since i moved to the urban jungle).
Saw loads on Exmoor and it was great, used to watch convoys going through the ford at Tar Steps (for anyone who knows where that is).
i wish, i wish, i wish i had a landy,
a fiesta is so boring!!!

When we did the Dales trip we had a few ramblers that smiled and said good morning and moved over. In fact the only miserable swines we had were a group of cyclists!!! Well actually it was just one of the group, we pulled over for most of them but met a few stragglers down the way and as there was nowhere for us to go they had to ride up a banking and this one woman just positively glowered at us  :D

But to put it in perspective, this can happen anywhere. It doesn't have to be a 'soft road'. It happens every day in the supermarket.... and I don't even mean the car park   There are those who simply think they have more right to be in a particular place than others. It's all part of being human... unfortunately.

But, I have to concur, it does spoil an otherwise nice day out.

My experience of walkers whilst laning is generally good.  Some move out of the way, others say hello while some even start a conversation.  I'm always courteous to walkers, cyclists and horse riders, even stopping my engine for horses.  The ones who get me are the motor-cyclists, who generally seem to have no regard for the lanes, the noise they produce and other users.

Got to admit I think we Steriotype the Ramblers as much as they do us at times. A lot possibly are good people who don't mind the odd 4x4, but the trouble is the problematic ones are the ones with power.

We had to do a piece in English this week about something we feel strongly about, and write an argument about it. Expected about a page and I handed in a 4 page Rant on why Greenp**s should shut up for once.

I saw that mob as well - all looked in severe pain to me, not one of them looked to be enjoying themselves . . . . . miserable sods !!!!!! . . . . . . i'de find something different to do if I was them.

The happiest ones were the small gang of young lady ramblers who looked absolutley bemused by the fact that we could actually get our vehicles to where they had walked. They didn't mind posing by the land rover for a couple of piccies either

Dunno.  :?  Just go for the enjoyment, not the miles.  I am most certainly not a miserable cyclist. :D
