GEAR BOX HELP
« on: April 29, 2006, 20:25:42 »
i have a discovery 300tdi on a 1995 plate it is starting to crunch in second and third gear and in reading the 4x4 magazines this is a common thing so my question is , is it cheaper to buy another recon box or get mine done and does anyone know how much it costs to get your gear box recond

another question is , i am fortunate enough to own another discovery but this one is a 200 tdi which me and my friend bought together which as not got an engine but its got the gear box etc ive noticed the reverse is in a different place on the 200 that i own to my 300 does this matter or would you suggest i take mine out of my 300 and just have it recond all the best and thankyou

hi mate.....the 300 tdi is an r380 gearbox and the 200 tdi gearbox is an lt77 gearbox hense the gates being different. i was thinking of upgrading mine to the r380 in my 200 tdi as its a stronger box.   ...so i would say get yours reconed myself mate   ...or try and pick up a cheap r380 box and get that reconed and fit that and sell yours on. thats if you dont want to take the disco off the road for too long....
cheers

Hi to all,  Not sure if its any help, but i purchased a load of stuff of a guy local in basingstoke the other day, and amongst the few bits i didnt buy was a gearbox and transferbox out of a "r" reg discovery, it was used but from memory was low mileage, the guy seemed a nice fellow and all the bits  i brought from him were A1,    I think he was loooking for about £400 quid for the pair, sounded a fair price to me?? Obviously i wont post his details on here, but if you send me p.m i will pass his details on,   Hope this helps some one out, Cheers for now
