Its a good conversion!
Ive got 1.7 tdi lump in mine, BUT:
Its a very tall engine, so I wouldnt advise unless the truck is lifted(or you want a big ass bonnet bulge)
Ive got about 6 inches or so lift on mine and it still has a hole cut in the bonnet for the timing cover to stick thru!!!!!
The non-turbo is easier than the turbo. The turbo exhaust outlet is just where you need an engine mount so it makes fabrication a wee bit harder, the non-turbo should make this easier.
Other than that, getting the engine in and runnin was easy, but the stock zook radiator needs upgrading to a much larger unit(especially for the turbo motor!!)
The tranny goes in quite nice, hammer or jack the trans tunnel a bit to widen it, and fab up a gearbox mount adaptor plate(easy)
I had a custom prop made up at Propshaft technologies in Rotherham, so that bit was easy!!
The gearchange can be taken apart, and the plastic gearstic housing bolted straight into the trans tunnel, with the shiftshaft shortened to suit.
Pretty easy I guess, if you want any pics, Pm me and Ill try to help.
Id go for the turbo. Its a bit busier under the bonnet, but it pulls like a bloody train. Theyre cheap as well, 250 quid saw me a 2001 51k engine from a combi van, and another 30 quid for carlton 3l gearbox.
Oh yeah, the clutch is a bit mix and match and you have to dogleg the actuator arm, test it has sufficient travel before fitting it all, I didnt and had to take it back out to mod the arm.....lol
