ive just lifted my dizzy 2" and was wondering what is best size tyre to go for
i've heard about a tyre link but not able to find it
the greater the mind!!!!
the more need for simplicity at PLAY

You'll be looking for this link then.  :wink:

To work out how large you want to go, find the diameter of the tyres your looking at, get a tapemeasure and go from the centre of the hub up towards the arch and mearsure half the diameter (radius) of the tyres to see where it will take it to.
Don't forget that if you go wider as well as taller then you may effect the turning circle and have to adjust the steering stops, unless you use wheel spacers or off-set wheels to go with the tyres.

You may also find that you need to trim the wheel arches at the rear as they sometimes catch the tyre on full artuculation.

these are 265 75 16's on a 2 inch lift, i am going to have to trim the arches slightly

Good guide is that one. Helped me decide what to settle on . . . . . for now  :twisted:

Didn't think the 265/75's would fit at first . . . .




But with a little cutting and persuasion . . . . .




Looks good . . . .




Wheels are steel mods with non-standard offsets btw . . . . used to run spacers on the standard alloys for same width  :wink

got 265,s on my V8 with a 1" lift on just had to adjust the rear arch and steering stops is a pic here

No mate, just did the Camel thing on the rear arch.

Then rolled the steel inner lip on the wing, under the rear door, right back to stop it cutting the tyre. Also reshaped the alloy lips a little, especially around the door corners. These bits have a sharp corner on them that will dig the tyre when it gets articulated. Not hard to do with a precision ball pein hammer  :wink: :twisted:  

Front clear perfectly but the front corner bumper trims were already cut down after I fitted spacer to the standard wheels with AT's. Did't need to adjust the steering stops with steel mods either.

Also fitted taller bump stops to stop the tyres ripping the inner arches out.


All works great now  :wink:

I'll try and get some done this weekend - it may help a few others to get clearance as well.

It's not rocket science mate, just gotta be brave with the snips and hammers and flatten or remove anything that looks like catching. Then go get it well crossed up and check the clearances and adjust as necessary  :wink:

The steel bits were the ones giving trouble, to be honest, the ally lips on the outer wings bent to shape first time out and just need easing a touch further to clear the tyres.

just remember ..the bigger the tyre the more strain you will put on the drive shafts and cv joints :cry: ..dont get me wrong i love the look of big tyres but is wise to start looking at uprating half-shafts ect....as these will probably go first ..try to keep wheel spin to a minimum will help a great deal ..ask anyone who runs simexes...on standard half shafts and components :?

Sound advice there Colin.

I have plans for uprating the drive system, along with other transmission items . . . . all in due course as time and cash permits :wink:

It's all down to what you really want to do the machine and how you end up driving it at the end of day.

IMO Big tyres are not a problem on there own, it's the extra grip they give you that makes you drive where the Discovery shouldn't go  :twisted:
