If you download bittorrents then here's a good one 4WDTV  8)

From Oz where this 4WD channel is in its 7th series. Pity we don't have the same opportunities for community programming as I feel it would be of benefit. This episode has an interesting article on the way to combat driving restrictions, something we should take note of

Its "free to view" from a community channel.

It is a bit of a grey area tbh

It will be a bit like videoing something off the telly and letting someone else watch it. As long as you are not charging for it and do not keep it for more than 30 days then there shouldnt be a problem.

Suppose I'll have to watch it again to see if there's any copyright infringements, shouldn't be too painful

There was a debate on whether the downloading of TV programs did harm to ratings. The study found that the geeks (official name for Star Trek, Dr Who, etc fans) who downloaded programs ahead of veiwing in their own country actually help to boost veiwers by ranting on about how good these programs are. So by downloading and talking about programs you actually do the producers a favour. Programs like "Lost" are downloaded and sold on ebay, but these are shown on terrestrial TV for free albeit some months later and with a fan database before it's screened.

So where is the illegality in veiwing or owning a program that will be free to veiw?

4WDTV may come to Men & Motors when they've worn the tapes out of what they already show     . But without the downloads we may not of come across this excellent and informative program. I'll be writing to M&M (mmmmm chocolate   ) and ask if they will consider screening 4WDTV as there must be a good few 4x4 fanatics here willing to watch it

From what I understand as long as the programme being downloaded has not been released or scheduled for release as a video/DVD then sharing them is ok.  There is a site I use called http://www.uknova.com that shares programes that have been shown on TV here.  There is an FAQ section which I believe says why what it is doing is legal.

It is illigal (and always has been) to keep a program or film that has been shown on TV for more than 30 days. How many of us have an old VHS tape with a favourit film knocking about that they taped a couple of years ago ?

Hi Bob, thanks for the email. We are a struggling very small production
company that is very passionate about 4wdriving. The show gives no
return and takes a lot of hard work. We actually produce 40 new episodes
each year.

We would love to have it on mainstream over there but we will need some
local support. So please get everyone you know to take a look and we
will do our best.

Cheers,

Simon & Miranda Christie

Any budding TV directors out there that would want to send them a 5 minute clip of on the UK scene? :P

from the links provided. The program to use to download them is called bittorrent or one of its clones (normaly better than the original).

Find a torrent clone to download (try azureus). Install it. Then click on one of the download links.

sorry mate but you have totaly lost me from the word bittorent onwards.

I am thick when it comes to most things and pc's are one of my not very good skills.

I think I will pass on watching it. I have kiled my pc too many times in the past and this looks like it could be another time I could easily kill it!

There we have the evidence that not all TV producers are not apposed to file sharing of their efforts. They are all after exposure and if file sharing helps then its an evil I believe they can live with   Program producers earn very little from TV companies (or in the Christie's case, nothing), yet the TV companies can make millions in advertising space slotted around these programs, not fair but a fact of life

As I said previously I'm penning a letter to Men & Motors to see if they will consider airing this program as there seems to be very little new home produced 4x4 tv (except for the anti's stuff). These guys in Oz are producing good informative programs and I think we should help them get extra legitimate airing.

So who's behind the campaign to see if Men & Motors will assist a decent sized audience watch some 4WDTV?

Sometimes your ISP will have a throttle applied to to torrents. It has taken me nearly 3 days to download the half series one but my computer is on all the time so it is no effort.

Your speeds may increase as more people seed it.
