what should i do

ive got myself a 3.5 v8 carb auto range rover classic, and want some advise on what to do with it ie bobtail what hight lift tyres etc for the most fun and capability off road, also what to do with bumpers etc make my own or buy winch ones
it also needs a brake master cylinder are they hard to do and has anyone got one they want to sell to me

First things first

What are your aims/objectives for this vehicle? any modifications you do should be done with this in mind.


you don't need to bob tail a range rover unless departure angles are a common problem with the sort of driving you do. Since fitting a moderate  suspension lift (only 1.5") i've had no problems with the departure angle of my RRC and thats with a fixed tow ball/plate, but then I only do recreational driving.


The other point of course is 'I want to because I can'. If you want a bob tail and are prepaired for it then thats your choice and not someone elses opinions.

its going to start off by going to fun/open days etc but i am looking at putting it on the road to perhaps go laning etc but whatever i do i would probley want to go in deep water plus do big hills etc
can you get a snokle on a carbed rangie, its got a pair of cone filters at the minute

Regards wading (water  :twisted: ) then yes you can fit snorkels to carbs, but it helps if you have a sealed air filter box, this was standard fitment to RRC, but may have been change on yours at some stage.

Other points to remember when wading

Buy and fit wading plugs (I've known some people forget the latter).
Extend the breather pipes for axles, gearbox, fuel tank etc.
Make sure the floors are reasonably water tight, some are corrded to the point of being culenders and could get you very wet

I'm sure others on here will add anything to this list if i've forgeten to mention.

Forgot to menchen, make sure you wind your windows up first (a recent mistake i've made :oops: ).


For enjoyable general recriaton etc. then a RRC needs very little modification (that won't necceserily stop them coming in due time), I did several Pay and plays/green lanes before I did any mods to mine. The best first modfifcaton I would recomend is the tyres.

A good set of all terrains or mud terrains will be the single biggest improvement you can do to any standard 4x4 IMO.

Sorry, but I don't have the elbows any longer that connect them to the carbs.
