Stolen <NOW RECOVERED>

The depths to which some people will sink.....
Corroborated the story with those concerned; sadly it's genuine.

Press Release

The HQ of West Brecon Cave Rescue Team was broken into on the night of May 14/15 2006.

The team's emergency response Landrover Ambulance was stolen along with an amount of specialist rescue equipment, radios, etc. Access was gained by pick-axe through the front doors.

The team is working to return itself to 100 percent operational efficiency although without the specially equipped Landrover there are substantial problems to overcome - the theft could potentially put lives at risk. Initial assessments put the cost of the theft at £40,000+, much of which had been raised through charitable donations and grant funding.

The Police are on site and investigating.

Should any person be offered any suspicious items they are asked to contact the Police.

> The West Brecon Cave Rescue team, a voluntary 999 organisation has
> just had their white Landrover stolen. If they haven't repainted it
> already, it has CAVE RESCUE in big letters down the side, and it's
> registration is X338 DCY. If anyone spots it, please contact the
> police immediately.

Information lifted from West Brecon Cave Rescue and from an email. Pictures on the website

Posted the info on mine and the other forums I visit, along with a couple of the pics from Wolfie's link.

Hopefully these people can be rounded up quickly - scumbags.

Just think it might be worth mentioning that the chance of it still being painted like that must be pretty close to zero. The theives will have resprayed it by now or broken it for parts. So best bet might be to be on the lookout for someone who suddenly has bits to sell and no good explanation of where they came from.

There's a whip round just started on the LR4x4.com forum that you can make any donation via paypal to help cover the difference between replacement cost and insurance payout.

Any amount is welcome and just put Mud Club in notes too so that they can pass on from where people donated

http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=5715

Cheers

I've posted on LR4x4 that any Mud-Club members sending a donation to Tony Cordell for this will make it "West Brecon Cave Rescue Team (Mud-Club)" in the title on Paypal so they know it's from us.

I've also asked, just be polite, that they don't mind us at Mud Club donating through the LR4x4 account.

Edit: Just in case anyone can't see this thread on LR4x4 for any reason, the Paypal account to sent any donations too is treasurer@lr4x4.com.

One other thing: I've PM'ed Tony just to make sure he doesn't mind taking donations from Mud Club as well as LR4x4 through Paypal and making it a joint donation from both forums.

If there are any problems I'll let you all know and we can set something up ourselves. If not then I'll start a new thread with all the details on it, as agreed with LR4x4.

I didn't notice that there's two threads running on here about this and just spent a while posting on the wrong one! Could mods move my post to this one please?
Any of you that visit/own other sites could you take the small amount of time needed to push this issue? It doesn't matter how much you donate as long as it's what you can realisically afford.

Thankyou all.

Les.  :D

Hi Les,

I've caused problems trying to move posts before, so I won't try to move yours in case I manage to lose it.

Les' post is at http://forums.mud-club.com/viewtopic.php?p=230703#230703 and he said

I e-mailed the Brecon Beacons Cave Rescue Service to check it would be ok for us all to help donate towards replacement of thier Land Rover.
This is the reply I got this morning.

Quote
I'm the treasurer of West Brecon Cave Rescue Team and your kind offer of
helping us out with funds for a new Land Rover has been passed on to me. On
behalf of the team I would like to accept the offer. It really is an
extremely generous thing to do and restores our faith in human nature
following such a thoughtless and selfish theft.

The lead post on your fundraising thread suggests that we were uninsured.
That is not true. We are insured but just don't expect that any payout will
fully meet the actual costs. I'd really appreciate it if you could express
our thanks.

When you feel ready to pass some cash on, let me know and I'll send you some
contact details!

Rhys Willliams
Treasurer, West Brecon Cave Rescue Team

I think that their insurers are likely to replace the base vehicle, and not everything else, so donations are still required please.
Sat tracking etc is a good idea, but then this service relies on donations, and those that have any faith tend to think that no-one would stoop so low as to steal this vehicle. (bit like stealing an ambulance really).
What they can do will depend on the donations we all make, so please - whatever you can afford will be gratefully accepted.

I also sent a begging letter to Navtrak to see if they will donate a system FOC.
Will post up any developements.

Les. :)

On a personal note, thanks to everyone who is getting behind this. I was considering suggesting a whip round myself as a potential user of the service.

Regards

Wolfie
