I used Windows Messenger up until very recently (No bleeps, shakes or other un-needed crap) but it had so many network Issues I'm now on 7.5

ICQ is alright, except my account must say "ALL RUSSIANS PLEASE ADD ME NOW AND ANNOY ME" and it's getting tireing...

I'm using it, although I really hope it's less of a ball ache than IE7.

Interface is nice (very Vista), and it's getting more in line with the "Microsoft Live Anywhere" solution they are touting which brings together XBox Live and Windows based communities/gaming.

I still prefer Windows Messenger though - no fuss, no mess, it does exactly what it says on the tin.  :D

ICQ is the spawn of evil - its old and nasty, and as said above just gets spammed!

AIM - well, that's AOL's version of MSN and once again the spawn of evil like most things to do with AOhelL!!

icq was the more popular messenger before msn came about

windows messenger wasnt really that good and icq was quite commonplace until msn was made public and people started to like it.

aim is aol's version, used it once, didnt like it, binned it

Windows Messenger is a completely different product compared to MSN messenger.

Windows Messenger has SIP telephony and the ability to connect to local Exchange servers, these are not available in MSN.

Windows Messenger is intended for corporate use, MSN is for home use (hence the reason is plastered with adverts within the app ;) )

and finally icq is owned by aol now ;)

its ok, but not really worth bothering with, especially as its still beta software, so its likely to not work
