upiand peat bogs in the uk hold more carbon than all the forests in britain and france. heavy winter rainfall, dry summers and burning all erode the surface vegetation, exposing the peat to release carbon dioxide.
the national trust has learned that cardon dioxide from eroding peat on the high peak estate in the peak district is equivalent to the vehicle emissions from travelling 168 million miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SO UP YOURS GREENPEACE

I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Yep seen similar things said on Discovery channel.
Global warming has nothing to do with cars/CO2 emmisions. Its going to happen anyway.
AFTER THAT IT GETS KIN COLD
Apparently the Earth is on a cycle of warm periods and very cold (ice age) periods that happen every 3-4 thousand years (maybe more I can`t remember the exact figures) point being- Can anyone remember the last ice age?
If theres a harder way to do it I`ll find it!!

Same goes for the thousands of tons of Methane that comes from rotting trees etc.  that is trapped in the silt in river estuaries if/when the sea warms up by 2-3 degrees this will be released and a runaway global warming will take place, which in turn will lead to the next ice age.

Projected start of this runaway effect   2070 ish !!!!!!!!!!!! at current rate of climate increase.

About 10,000 years ago.

Another factor that influences global warming is the quantity of salt in the sea. Reduce that and the temperature will go down or so I saw on something a few years ago.

Believe it or not the Earth has been more uninhabitable in terms of years because of extreme temperature and Sulphide in the air than the number of years it has sustained life.

It's an ever changing planet and it's impossible to keep it constant.

Theres no question about the fact that the planet is and will change.

However the question is how much are we influencing the change? (please send in answers on the back of a postcard to PO box.....)

Bearing in mind that all the gases/particles up there don't just keep the heat in more, they also prevent quite as much entering in the first place. So the true effect of global warming may well be masked by other effects.
