Well so many years on since 9/11 this film has come out.  There has been alot of outcry by alot of New Yorkers about the timing of it, i.e. its too soon.

My personal view is yes its too soon, but also the lives of the hero's (i use that word because the passengers gave their lives to save many many more lives) need to be celebrated and them shown as the hero's that they were.

I for one dont know if i would want to see it yet as its obviously a very very emotional subject for some people and being based on a recent mass tragedy might stir up feelings in one way or another.

Whats your view?

I hope all the proceeds from selling the rights is going to the families, the NYFD charity, etc.

Although.... somehow, I doubt they are.....  still, as long as someone is making money from people's tragedy

You asked for views.. and that is mine...

Sorr to be controversial...

This is a hollywood film, like any other dramtisation its going to have little to do with what actually happened. Its a feel good American flag waving film which I wont be wasting my time on.

And Tigger, not a chance, I doubt anyone that needs it will see any money.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

I watched the trailer tonight before seeing the  Da vinshe code and felt very uncomfortable.  Its a free world (aparently) so if people want to make money out of films like that and if people want to go and see the film so be it BUT I won't be watching it for a good few years yet.

My two penny worth... hmmm... Americans and facts don't go hand in hand.. this will be a weepee flag waver showing the yanks as all around good guys and heros... and I doubt the cast and crew gave their services for nothing ... which I would have done... and the profit..? oh, I dare say a percentage will go to families... but what percentage ?.. I'll watch it... I can't really give a fair opinion without doing so.. but I have my reservations... ... I would add that our best friends are the yanks and you can poke all things "european" right where the sun dont shine...  I'll paddle over to the states any time rather than europe.. so I'm not anti American....

And furthermore....  how can any motion picture the Americans make ever be taken seriously... I mean come on.. U571 ?  Braveheart ?  Any mainstream film made in America or with mainly American money or influence is meant as fodder for the gullible childlike souls that live there... adventure films etc , yes, thrillers, action all fine but anything fact based... forget it.. they have no history of their own as such....so they steal others or just make it up....
we just have to nurture the Americans until their nation reaches puberty

9-11 i wont forget but i wont be going to watch the film.
things need to read not over dramatised.

how about the concern for the fire fighters paremedics police officers who were there on the day there health both physically and mentaly

i'm with Tim so long the profit goes to help the familys then great if not then the film should be left well alone.

I may watch it out of interest (download probably), but it is only a film, a form of "entertainment".  Seeing how everyone died in the crash, how can it be based on "facts" ?  It's a flag-waving money spinner, but if it makes people feel good about themselves, then so be it.

I don't see why a film needed to be made about it to be honest.  Profiteering from it is just wrong, but then people make films about real life mass murderers and profit from it, so I guess it's the world we live in.

The film apparently has the blessing of all the relatives of those on the flight and they have used people rather than actors who did or do the jobs etc shown such as air traffic controllers.
I would go and watch the film so i can make my own mind up as to whether it was distasteful or not
I think it needs to be remembered the americans as a nation are still in shock over 9/11, we over here have a much different view to terror attacks on our homeland having lived with the threat for a lot longer
True stories are never very interesting if told without a little dramatic licence but i hope they would have got the balance right on this one but i reserve judgement until i have seen it

I've seen it, it is NOT the usual hollywood film, it concentrates on the families involved and is not touched with the feelgood factor.

As a side note the lead actor for the terrorists apparently was banned from going to NY to the premier - he's a successful asylum seeker now living in the London area who originated from Middle Eastern parts.

I would say see it then decide, just be prepared for a thought provoking film.

The other point about facts.  The film was put together from information relayed by the people on the plane to their families when they phoned them on their mobile phones.  This was deemed possible and was proved as they plane was below a certain height.  Also the head of the federal air traffic control (he plays himself in the film) who was responsible for grounding every flight in the US said it was as close as it could be with the information it had.

Personally my question was nothing to do about profits, as stated in one of the posts, but to do with the actual situation itself.
